I am uncomfortable with eating brown people unless they are poor.

So another wealth redistribution scheme, proposed by the same socialists who have ruined central and south America. Is there some sort of script you guys follow?

Hmm 5 of the 8 richest guys in the world are leftists. Wonder what I'm to make of that?

It is corruption and the power of oligarchs and the legacy of spanish colonialism that explains the economic challenges in the region and also by the way explains why in some countries communism gained a foot hold. You need to really understand the history because the USA has become more and more "3rd" world in the last couple of decades with the disparity of wealth and corporate lobbyists resembling more and more the power of oligarchs you see in many Latin American countries.

I do understand why you Cog and KJ are so much sounding the alarm of your anti socialist diatribes. You wouldn't do this if you did not recognize what is potentially cooking in the collective. I actually share your concern.

If the political left dives head long into far leftist socialist ideology this will be a disaster economically for the USA. But what will have brought them there is not intelligencia academics or the MSM or urban liberals. It will be the very policies we are now undertaking and have been long before Trump of allowing corporations and lobbyists to resemble the same corruption you see oligarchs have in Latin America. The trend lines of disparity of wealth and the depth of corruption is what has turned the US increasingly into a 3rd world country and this trend line is alarming.

THere is tremendous naivete on both the extreme right and extreme left. An glaring example on the political right of tremendous naivete is the belief that we actually have free enterprise in the USA. The pharmaceutical companies are laughing their way to the bank as the right targets "socialism" as a threat to America.

We live in times where the extremes want to rule..... what has happened to the measured middle?

Public health insurance affordable for all is not extreme socialist ideology by the way. It is a way to build confidence and resiliency in our current economic system.

The Economy’s Not Booming. Predatory Capitalism’s Eating ItselfWhat Happens When Capitalism Eats Itself? Fascism.

So, I think this article is very revealing. It is what is being talked about in the Mass Dieoff thread about how collectivism will end of being the way to make the rope less taut as an analogy and so allow Capitalism to remain viable. But the problem is that step maybe skipped altogether and what will emerge will be full on Fascism or something akin to that. In any case that is where we are headed. The excesses of Capitalism both in economic throughput and also in inequality will become intolerable for society as a whole as constraints become ever more acute. So, some form of Collective Social Economic/Political order will emerge.

It may emerge faster precisely because the Wealthy class is so insensitive to the masses and their situation and because they are so greedy.

They have lots and lots of Monopoly money. They could not divest of it if they tried.

Where is there proof they are hyper consumers? Maybe yes, but maybe no. My personal guess is that because they are proportionally very small consumers. If we each got a $100,000 would we hold it or spend it? They have moment tied up, not circulating, and thus is not contributing to consumption.

When they do consume, that’s when they are passing their wealth down the line to us see folks. That’s when we see the benefit from their fortunes. If a guy buys a $10 million Yacht then he isnspendning money on craftsmen to. Hold the yacht, crews to sail it, and crews to fix it.

More important is how much money do you have? Is it enough for your personal happiness? When the bubble goes bust will your little nest egg crack? Are you enjoying your life and health?

But in case you need something to eat your heart out with envy well here are some bits of conspicuous consumption. And these folks, outside perhaps Paul ALLEN, aren’t of the ultra rich class.

What's surprising to me is how few of them are willing to give away their money. If I had anything over 2-3 mil I would start a foundation and give most of it away. I'm happy though, most of these rich aren't.

I pulled the plug and sold my business having reached 3 million net worth. From that time forward I have invested that wealth in what we are doing here in Panama. Not sitting on any of it much to the consternation of friends and financial advisers. It has been the most fulfilling chapter of my life.....

I will simply say that the thread topic is very revealing. Obviously dohboi, who made his lifestyle and career choices decades ago, at this point thinks he has been shortchanged. He seeks to plunder the wealth of those people whose greed was so great that they accumulated more money than anybody else.

dohboi, you made an honorable and respectable choice to be an academic and furthermore you understood that you were choosing to forego extra income while doing so. Perhaps you have changed your mind at this point in your life - but it's too damned late, those rich folks don't owe you anything, especially extra income.

FWIW, I have known my share of Silly Valley tech millionaires, and they are not anybody to envy. Try raising your kids in constant fear that they will be kidnapped because of you and your wealth. Try laying awake at night because you understand that you can't really trust those you have hired to guard your family. Watch your kids acquire silly ideas about who the "right people" are, and countless other ideas about our supposedly classless society that accompany great wealth that you inherit versus earn.

Understand that misery happens at every income level. You think that you would be happier with more wealth. I think it more likely you would not be.

"thinks he has been shortchanged"

I feel nothing remotely close to that.

Please stop claiming you know my inner thoughts. It is a very, very obnoxious thing to do. If you have a question about what I am thinking exactly about anything in particular, I will generally be happy to give you accurate info on in.

Otherwise, stop pretending that you know for sure things that you absolutely do not know.

Thank you.

Rations for German soldiers during WWII were stamped with the initials AM, which they jokingly said stood for Alter Mann. (Old Man)

I would be very tough to chew.
