IMO, carbon reductions, etc, will ultimately be enforced (forced) by Nature and reality.

Actually most treaties are upheld fairly well, either because doing so is in the interest of all the signers or because the benefits of cheating are not worth the international tensions that would be created.

In terms of climate negotiations the Montreal Accord on CFC's has been a nearly complete success, partly because it had a long phase in time for lesser technologically advanced nations to adapt as they could instead of having to go cold turkey and invest a large sum up front.

.... and somebody in Asia has been violating that treaty for possibly 8 years. Maybe they think nobody's paying attention anymore.

Some progress since Paris, but not enough, as governments amble towards 3°C of warming

https://climateactiontracker.org/public ... -dec-2018/

(That's the cue for Plant to go bonkers again ululating about how it's all Obama's fault...in his inimitable, adorable way! :) :) :) )

Another example of the media presenting the false idea that climate change takes place as a smooth rise, not as a step change of abrupt shift. It does not go 1,2,3 it goes more like 1,2,5,-1,2,5 until you hit on an intrinsic limit like we did at the PTEM. Or in the other direction Snowball Earth.

We know that between 420-520 ppmv the earth in the past had little or no ice in the northern hemisphere for the last 250 million years. That is not a change of 3C degrees, it is a shift to a world averaging between 18C and 19C world average temperature, and it happens as a tipping point change. Going the other way from the end of the Miocene Epoch we dropped from 17C to 12C virtually overnight, in a geological eye-blink. From 12C we gradually cooled in the north until glaciation took place leading to the current series of ice ages, but it was no long slow process to drop that 5C degrees at the end of the Miocene. It went down 1C,2C,5C in a big step change. Going the other direction it is predicted to follow the same behavior.

You want comfort seek out a religious leader. I am trying to express science in a fashion understandable by the interested average human.

I am not being flippant in the first half of that statement, even Marxist Leninist thought acknowledged that 'Religion is the opium of the masses'. Meaning that the average person who couldn't afford any other kind of comfort was at least comforted by the religious leadership of all its various stripes.

Obviously the delegates at the ongoing UN Climate Conference in Poland are struggling to make progress.

I don't see what the problem is.

Why don't they just pass a new accord that sets the limit on global warming on 1.9°C instead of the 2.0°C set by Obama and the rest of the world's leaders in the Paris Accords??? That would be a 5% improvement over the Paris Accords!!!!

The UNFCC climate meeting in Poland has now ended. The delegates adopted a "rulebook" with suggestions as to how they should report on their carbon emissions. The "rules" are voluntary.

Seeing as how almost none of the Paris Accord signatories are meeting their own voluntary emissions targets, IMHO we can now look forward to them fudging on their own voluntary reporting rules as well.

Cheers!

How depressing. Maybe jump on more CO2 belching joyride flights around the planet to take the edge off?

Its estimated the folks who travelled to the COP24 conference in Poland emitted as much CO2 as 8000 US homes emit over a full year.

un-climate-summit-to-emit-more-co2-than-8k-american-homes-in-a-year-report

And all for nothing.

There still are no reductions in global CO2 emissions.

There still is no agreement on carbon trading or a carbon tax.

The delegates couldn't even agree to endorse the latest IPCC report.

Oh well. In two more years there will be another international climate conference. Our world leaders can't keep ignoring the AGW problem forever.......can they?

CHEERS!

Great, you and them are two peas in a pod. Why then should you be one to judge? You are literally a psychological projection-machine.

I don't why "are fit to judge Plant."

I'm not even sure what your poorly constructed and ungrammatical sentence is supposed to mean.

Did you mean to type ....why am I fit to judge Plant...or why are you fit to judge plant....or why is god fit to judge plant....or even why is mos/ennui/asg fit to judge Plant...what exactly are you trying to say?

Apparently just the idea of judging Plant got you so wee-wee'd up you forgot to type all the words in your sentence so that it would make sense

CHEERS!

OK, I get it now.

You are one of the most intelligent and perceptive posters at this site, Onlooker. I'm glad to hear we did't somehow get crosswise.

Have a great holiday week!
