Shouldn't this be a red flag, since most in the military are in their 20s. Even lifers are usually out by 40.

So if that's the case, it seems that we have a national problem that is not being recognized. Or perhaps hidden.

I'm in my 70s and have no problem so why should men in their 20s be needing assistance?

I thought the military had an up or out policy?

It occurs to me we may be slowly genetically extinguishIing ourselves in this modern world with all its negative impacts, chemicals etc. So that even if devastating abrupt consequences from climate change and nuclear war never materialize we may reach an evolutionary impasse. As per a movie I saw "Children of Men',whereby the reproductive capacity of humans is compromised.
Or maybe our genetic/cybernetic advances will improve our species biologically . Or natural selection will weed out the genetically superior from the inferior. I guess this thread can open up some interesting speculation on our future as a species

Nope....I am convinced it is all the fault of man buns, a diet with any amount of kale in it, lack of red meat, manicures, hair stylists vs barbers, fancy fruity drinks rather than a good single malt, aversion to a big cigar on the odd occasion and lack of manual labor.
We raised a generation of whimps....got what we sowed (no pun intended). :P

It would be a huge step in the right direction.

Maybe it's something in our collective unconscious, deep down our internal systems can sense the over population stress and are trying to slow the growth rate.

Our bodies do a lot of things we don't understand.

"Can Human Beings Survive The Impending Climate Crisis?"

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/can ... 6a95c874c5

"Although climate change may now rank alongside ISIS as the world’s most feared security threat according to a new Pew report, the horrors that global warming will unleash in the future, are far “worse than you think” warns David Wallace-Wells.
In his sobering piece in New York Magazine, he says that “even within the lifetime of a teenager today ... parts of the Earth will likely become close to uninhabitable, and other parts horrifically inhospitable.”"

Remember Dohboi something I have mentioned repeatedly that you took issue with. Homo sapiens is the species perhaps most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. Others may go extinct before us but because we are so overextended in overshoot our species is the most vulnerable to a correction due to climate change. Simply because we will have spread to all continents and bloomed to a cool 8 or 9 billion when these impacts come home to roost.

Climate change is not the problem but rather the solution to human overshoot. The default solution because we failed to come up with a better plan.

This should be embraced with a sense of humility. Silver linings? We may learn a thing or two culturally.

We seem to have a difference on...let's call it nomenclature...on this one, so let's not rehash the whole thing again here, shall we? :)

More signs of the times:

The demand for billionaire bunkers has increased 300% since the November 2016 election of Donald J. Trump as the president of the USA. It appears that the smart money is betting that the risk of a major collapse (with billions of people dying) in their lifetimes is higher than the general public has been led to believe:

Billionaire bunkers: How the 1% are preparing for the apocalypse

http://edition.cnn.com/style/article/do ... index.html

A number of companies around the world are meeting a growing demand for structures that protect from any risk, whether it's a global pandemic, an asteroid, or World War III -- while also delivering luxurious amenities.

"Your father or grandfather's bunker was not very comfortable," says Robert Vicino, a real estate entrepreneur and CEO of Vivos, a company he founded that builds and manages high-end shelters around the world.

"They were gray. They were metal, like a ship or something military. And the truth is mankind cannot survive long-term in such a Spartan, bleak environment."

Many of the world's elite, including hedge fund managers, sports stars and tech executives (Bill Gates is rumored to have bunkers at all his properties) have chosen to design their own secret shelters to house their families and staff.

Gary Lynch, general manager of Texas-based Rising S Company, says 2016 sales for their custom high-end underground bunkers grew 700% compared to 2015, while overall sales have grown 300% since the November US presidential election alone

If the forces unleashed by AGW and/or other factors are potent enough to plausibly extinguish the human species it is doubtfull Bunkers etc. will be anything more than a temporary superficial haven for the rich.

Yep. It's doubtful that many of these rich folks have the broad skillset required to survive for long after they emerge from their gilded cages. Most of them got rich by specializing in things that will go POOF along with civilization.

Yup, G and P. That is why I appreciate this site so much. Guys like you are so realistic. A skillset is the best you can do and financially manuevering away from obligations within the System. After that we are at the mercy of events and the Powers that be to a large degree. A temporary glitch is a different animal. Just have some food, water, flashlight and charged communication device will just about cover it. haha.

Weird to imagine that those who contributed the most to extinction will be the last to die in those bunkers.

Maybe not the last but the first as the masses want payback.

Hording their wealth in golden cages like rats in a hole. These folks live in a deep poverty actually lacking in the following:

1) brotherhood
2) Service to help others
3) community reliance
4) skill set outside of money transactions
5) Trust (they suspect everyone of wanting what they have)
6) Generosity ( they take and horde for themselves without thinking about giving to others)

The deeper and wider your moat the less is your trust. The higher your fence the greater your fear.

These will be the functionally extinct of a dying paradigm. Their wealth will be a hindrance and a chain around their necks. They will have hung on to the end becoming truly functionally extinct while the future will be happening outside their walls, with the poor and disenfranchised honed and hardened from consequences, socialized to share the little they got.

The birth of a new world order will happen outside their walls.
