Depends what you count & don't. Slavery as in zero wages, right to essential survival inputs in return for essentially all of your productivity, probably about right. But there is a huge grey area, where people work in near slave like conditions, paid enough to save a few third world relatives from starvation, but not enough to ever get out of this situation. Much of the world is like this. If you are an Asian worker in the Middle East, you will work 12 hour days, 6 days a week, for half of what local citizens get on unemployment benefits. A low skilled worker in many countries barely earns enough to survive. The definition of 'wage earner' versus 'slave' is very blurry at the lower half of the former.
