Barack Obama's latest honor: a parasitic flatworm to bear his name

What to give the man who has everything, including a Nobel prize? The newly discovered species Baracktrema obamai is certainly ‘unusual and distinctive’

Having a newly discovered parasitic flatworm named after you may not be the world’s most illustrious honor, but it’s something Barack Obama nonetheless has the pleasure of adding to his presidential legacy.

Enter Baracktrema obamai, the flatworm that infects Malaysian freshwater turtles, a species and genus of parasite discovered by Dr Thomas R Platt, an expert on turtle parasites, who wanted to bestow the president with a gift of adding his namesake to the animal kingdom...

Jeez, that's about as ugly and useless a piece of art (I say that lightly) as I have ever seen. Did you design and implement that atrocity Planty?

It was't me Petey.

I'm just the messenger.

I thought P would salivate a bit over this one. Well, you won't have Obama to kick around much longer (unless you enjoy kicking dead horses).

Has it been a warm late summer/early fall up there, (or have you been jetting around again so haven't noticed)?

I'm sure President Hillary will provide some interesting topics to discuss

We're having a very beautiful fall, with near record warm temperatures. Of course, here in central Alaska that means Temps in the low 60s. I'm trying to get outside as much as possible, hiking up a steep local trail every afternoon through golden yellow birch trees, with leaves occasionally fluttering down to carpet the ground.

Hope you are also having a great fall. You are in.....Wisconsin? Is that right, D.? And I hope Peter is enjoying his custom-built McMansion in California?

Niiiice!

I'm in Minnnesota, and we're finally having some lovely fall weather after a wet and warm late August.
