The "Iris" is ugly, slow and small...

...but you gotta love those Tatas.

Image
Iris
It has less power than some lawnmowers, is cheaper than a scooter and has a fuel tank smaller than some cooking pots, yet the quirky Tata Magic Iris can legally carry five in true Indian-style comfort.

Tata's Magic Iris is powered by a 611cc engine (0.6-litre), which is about half the size of the smallest car engines in Australia.

The diminutive diesel engine is capable of just 8.2kW or power (11 horsepower); in comparison, most ride-on mowers pump out at least 10.5kW.

I think it's cute! Resembles the 1970 Subaru 360 van-see below. The Subaru had only a 356cc engine! Saw a lot of them when I lived on the island of Guam that year.

If someone falls off that Indian train (like off the front and the train runs them over), do you think they stop? :)

I'd take one of those little ugly vans. I'd drive it right into the house.

We have been driving around in a tiny solar car for a couple of years (in the snow free months).

We have found that you can do a lot of things with a little car.

There should be small cars for getting around town.

They cost a lot less to operate and are really fun.

My husband drives the smallest pickup truck in the county (1965 Datsun 320) and we find it more than adequate for our needs.

Calm down there AD, if it wasn't for us certain Westerns those Arabs would still be riding camels and would not know what to do with all that black oil under their feet, India would also still be the poorest nation, not the fastest growing democracy as they are today...

You should know better than to post when you haven't a clue.

These fools in Pommie land (as well as a few in America) repeatedly put on the Israelis and Hindu India whilst we are in the midst of major issues with muslims and to a smaller extent, their backers, the Chinese. Do we need anymore enemies than we have at the moment? How much more bad feeling do we want to arouse?

In any event, as an Afrikaner South African, let me tell ya, these Pommie buggers weren't behind the door when it came to helping themselves to the wealth of their colonies including our gold and diamonds.

These hindus are a fairly decent lot. They aren't hassling us with Sharia, Burkas, virginal obsessions, Jihad or some other such hangover, they aren't running up vast trillions of reserves by selling us trash we don't need. Whats with the English. The BBC runs this same nonsense on India or is forever wailing over the "poor Palestinians" whilst the English Defence League goes ballistic over the antics of Muslims in Britain. Why don't they make their blimmin minds up.

We in the West need all the good friends we can find or we will be history, soon.

edit: Go on waffling , do deals with the Arabs and Muslim crazies on Palestinian and Kashmiri self-determination (exclusive muslim states) and the Chinese on running your factories, Englishman and when British muslims demand their own Islamostan in your territory or the Chinese have no further use for you, let's see what your magnanimity is made of.

What empire? Take a look at it. Pakistan out of control and armed to the teeth with nukes. Israel on the perpetual brink of disaster, surrounded as it is by wahhabist crazies your Lord Lardy Dahs gave the Arabian Peninsula to. Much of Africa in such a state of degradation, we are a mere virus away from a hellish pandemic. If you consider that a work of art, I have a recently used toilet bowl to sell you, complete with a freshly dropped load.

GASMON wrote:AD When getting out of bed, ensure in future you don't put 2 legs down one side of your underpants !! Tends to make one irrational. Whinging colonial. Step back into line or we will send a gunboat round !!!

True the average Indian is a far more decent person than the average Muslim (Pakistani). I have worked with both.

Trouble is, 1.15 billion Indians, and 1.3 billion Chinese CAN'T have a car. Not enough resources to build them, let alone oil to run em. Google "peak oil" and gen up !!!

AD - Like it or lump it, my forefathers did bloody hard work building the glorious British empire, upon which the sun never set. Never forget what we, the great British people have given the world, (your neck of the woods included), civilisation, a common language, you name it, we probably invented it, then built it, around the world, - railways, infrastructure, government, industry, establishment, schools, hospitals etc etc in all our empire nations, we gave local people there christianity (if they wanted it), decency and purpose. All this for a diamond or two here, boat load of bannanas there !!!.

Get up early tommorow, read your history books and admire our empire. (after, of course, checking your underpants !!!!!!!!!!)

Much worse than God's Chosen People who Lord Lardy Dah Balfour gave Palestine to.

The Britz and Jooz responsible should be taken out and shot at dawn, like those heroic US Marines who executed Afghan kids.

So anyways, back on topic, I predict that the Magic Iris will outsell any Chev, Frod, Chrysler, Fiat, British Leyland, Rootes, Austin, Jagular, Rolls, Bentily, Aston Martin, Mini, Tesla, Cadillac, Hummer or Saab.
