Server & Website upgrades comming Friday October 7

I am well aware of all the problems in recent weeks, and some upgrades are planned for this Friday.

I can't promise this will fix everything, but it should make the site stability and performance much better.

Expect peakoil.com to be down for a few hours on Friday (10/7) afternoon.

Just in case something goes catastrophically wrong I want to say, thank you for close to a decade lurking and posting here!

Well things seem to be good, so thanks for the work.

Aside from me being suddenly dumped off the site in the middle of a post at 11:04 AM EST (by my watch), everything I see seems to have gone well.

I don't know if this is doable on the internet, but with respect, when I was a system programmer and was shutting down facilities for maintenance, if I was going to be early getting started (or even if not), I gave folks a 5 minute warning before actually commencing such work, just to let them save their work.

(This was in addition to the announcement like the one sent well ahead of time in this thread). On the mainframe, we could easily notify all users in real time (i.e. the next time they hit ENTER, they'd get it).

Something already did go catastrophically wrong. An entire thread just went missing and you haven't even gone down for maintenance yet.

I started a thread about the missing thread:

there-is-an-entire-thread-missing-t72883.html

THERE IS AN ENTIRE THREAD MISSING!

Where did the the thread about the last forum outage go. It has just disappeared!

That thread included a very important argument about behavior on this forum.

Where did it go?

What the hell is going on here?

Most of the upgrades are now complete. I will be looking into this issues over the next week.
Hopefully, the site is more stable now..

Mucho thanks admin. Now if some of our cohorts could just be a tad more stable. LOL

I seem to have some problems logging into threads. Maybe members only threads? I keep getting bounced back to the login screen.

Yup, I can't log into members threads. Also is the "edit" function missing? Mi don't see it for my above post.

You have problems yet. I'm getting recycled to the log in page instead of moving to the post I clicked on.

Try it from the guest set of threads. For me it seems to be only the members only threads blocked.

The "View Unread Posts" page does not refresh.

Automatic login doesn't work.

I can get auto login to work, and can list messages in individual forums. However "View New Posts" bounces back to the login screen.

Correction to my last message: View New Posts does work if you get there by selecting "Forum Posts Member View" from the left hand menu.

What does not work is my old bookmark to that page, which is where I like to start a new online forum session. However, once I deleted the old bookmark and stored a new one immediately after choosing "Forum Posts Member View", I can now start where I prefer to start.

Perhaps a reminder to the PO.com members to refresh their Forum bookmarks would help alleviate such complaints.

The only feature that I have noticed missing is now the "Edit" button for recent posts, which is why I posted two messages to this thread.

Now I experience the endless login prompt nonsense when trying to access some subfora (e.g. Environment). I can get into other subfora without problems.
