Bombarded by notifications

Although I read here daily, I only post from time to time when I feel I have something to say or to add to a conversation. For some reason the "Arctic sea ice" thread is showing that I originated it?

I'm many things but a climate scientist I'm not. I would not have originated this thread, and my daily at home e-mail inbox is simply inundated by notifications about each new post on the thread

(Help) :(

Rod, when a thread gets large and slow to load, the admins break it up to improve board performance. If your message is the first in the new segment, you get listed as thread originator. The thread originator is by default subscribed to threads that he/she originates - even if you didn't really originate the thread, but only were the first poster in the new segment of a thread that somebody else originated.

To stop the notifications, go to the "User Control Panel" in the left side panel, and select the "Board Preferences" tab. The item "Notify me upon replies by default" should be set to "No", and then press the "Reset" button at the bottom to enter the change in your profile.

You will still have the option of getting notifications for any subscribed threads, but after the above change, you will have to enable notifications that you want, versus having all of them default to "On".

Rod, sorry but I believe I gave you an incomplete answer. To unsubscribe from a particular thread, go to the "User Control Panel", "Overview" tab. Then under "Manage Subscriptions" select the topic "Arctic Sea Ice", and press the "Unwatch marked" button.
