Hello,

I am the author of a series of Spy Thrillers. My next book involves drill ships, platforms and a need to know a bit about deepwater drilling techniques, BOP's, etc... This is a Fiction book, so there can be some "Science Fiction" in it, but for the most part, I like things to be as realistic as possible and make it sound as if I know what I'm talking about. I like to do my research.

Where can I post my questions and/or how can I get some of the information that I am looking for?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Thom and welcome aboard! I moved your post to the Peak Oil Discussion Forum where you will be seen by several retired oil field experts. Generally put a question in the subject line of any new thread and people will jump in to answer, but be aware the majority here are amateurs so ask for links to data and be wary of people claiming to know more than they do.

Hi, if you're still interested:

Half the book was written by a professor of anthropology (our energy dilemma, depending on ever-rising complexity etc.), the other half by a prof. of petroleum engineering. That half is full of the nitty-gritty details of how and why the Deepwater Horizon explosion occured. You should find a lot of technical info there, especially if your thriller involves Things Going Wrong. Also make sure you read about Piper Alpha:
