The question comes down to, why would anybody vote for the anti-science crowd? Especially, when life on earth is in the balance.
The things that will destroy America are prosperity-at-any-price, peace-at-any-price, safety-first instead of duty-first, the love of soft living, and the get-rich-quick theory of life.

People find plenty of reasons to vote for the anti-science crowd. It's based on the priority they ascribe to various things. Most place ideology, identity politics, and economic concerns above ecology, even those who accept AGW, even some on this board who should know better!

The TEA party stands for "taxed enough already" which is a sentiment I share but unfortunately they have a large faction that is also fundamentalist Christian ,flat earth, anti evolution anti abortion fanatics. You can't be one without bowing to the other and win a GOP primary in any of the Red states.
The only alternative is liberal "every problem deserves a Federal program to solve it' And Don't worry about the cost ' well tax the rich for it. Open borders, "free" health care  and gut the military.
As usual it is just a matter of choosing between the lessor of two weasels.

Deceit preys on the weak-minded. In other words, dummies share part of the blame.

Exactly right.

The answer should be clear---science isn't the chief motivating factor for most voters or most politicians.

Look at all the Ds who supported John Edwards as D VP nominee and then for D president. John Edwards whole career was based on anti-science hysteria that he whipped up to win large awards from doctors in class action suits, in spite of medical science being on the side of the doctors.

Sadly, neither the Ds nor the Rs have a monopoly on virtue.

Cheers!

People who buy new cars and then cry crocodile tears over climate change. The manufacture of a typical new car emits ca. 16 tons of CO2 and a new EV is actually much worse since the battery also has to be manufactured, resulting in a total carbon footprint of ca. 30 tons of CO2

Not a monopoly, but an overwhelming preponderance of denial from one side as opposed to the other. You're suggesting that there is some kind of false equivalence.

There will always be a few stragglers from both sides entrenched in their disbelief, but that should not prevent a vast majority from taking appropriate action.

?????

No, you are the one saying that the fact that there are unscientific views in both the R and D parties is a false equivalence.

Jeez...don't you even know what that saying means?

Look---there are far more then a "few stragglers" who believe unscientific things. On global warming, for instance, the latest Gallup poll shows that 40% of Republicans say they worry a great deal or fair amount about global warming....the percentage of independents expressing concern ... 64%. Democrats' concern is .... 84%.

Obviously many more Ds say they are concerned.

But then look at my example on John Edwards attack on medical science. The Ds UNANIMOUSLY nominated Edwards for VP...and then millions and millions of them back Edwards for president, even though he was clearly a lying scum dog who has since been hounded out of politics.

Neither side has a monopoly of virtue.

Cheers!

Did I bruise your ears?

You know as well as Lore where the bias lies.

EDIT:
Cid I really hate it when you guys make me edit for no good reason so please control yourself.

Bias is splattered all over every political viewpoint, you might be blind to your own bias but those who disagree with you are not.

Plant, the numbers and policies speak for themselves. Refer to the OP as a great example.

My statement was pretty clear, there is one party within our system that has continued to deny and work against most measures regarding climate change. Trying to convince us otherwise is not fooling anybody here.

Cheers!

Bias none the less, because Democrats emphasize the facts they agree with and ignore or ridicule the facts they disagree with, just like every other member of the human race.

Your right-wing thinking has clouded your mind, grasshopper.

As to the OP, climate change poses a national security threat recognized by our military. Rather then let them carry out their duties on a well recognized problem that we face the Republican Congress, by a near unanimous vote, took measures to oppose them addressing it. With a cockamamie excuse that it would sidetrack them from our war on terrorism. In other words, they're suggesting our military can't walk and chew gum at the same time. Those are the facts, if there is another set I'd love to hear them?

What these corporate stooges are really saying by their vote is, lay off our benefactors and I'm not talking about U.S. citizens.

Of course this is only one instance of an endless string of of GOP denial, delays and outright lies to the public. If they voted in the same numbers as the Dems for climate change action we'd be getting somewhere, but obviously they don't.

Conclusion, as the topic states, the GOP IS a clear and present danger.
The things that will destroy America are prosperity-at-any-price, peace-at-any-price, safety-first instead of duty-first, the love of soft living, and the get-rich-quick theory of life.

The POTUS is also Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces.

Do you suppose they became racially integrated because they wanted to? Eisenhauer forced them to when he was POTUS.

Do you suppose they began tolerating gays voluntarily? POTUS Clinton enacted "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" via DOD directive 1304.26 in 1993.

Do you suppose they recently voluntarily accepted the transgendered? Obama ordered it.

The various DOD directives relating to AGW, Climate Change, and Fossil Fuel exhaustion were issued by presidents Carter, Reagan, Ford, Clinton, George W, and Obama. This is the way the system works:

1) During time of peace, all the Armed Forces brass sucks up to the POTUS and the Secretary of Defense. Those who suck the most, even if by enacting policies that weaken the defense posture, get promoted to the Joint Chiefs.

2) During time of war, the best fighters advance in rank and assume command in the battlefield and eventually the Pentagon.

If you want the truth, most DOD planning goes into effective fighting in a scenario where there is an acute oil embargo, or perhaps when the whole Middle East is radioactive. They plan to fight effectively using a minimum amount of hydrocarbon fuels. This means solar powered electronics, drones vs. jet fighter-bombers, Nuclear powered surface fleet and submarines, etc. etc.

The DOD pays lip service to AGW and Climate Change. Just like the Republicans, the Democrats, and the American public. Everybody except the lunatic fringe of our society.
