There is the case of Poland ,
fracking was pushed by the government but ultimately they had to give it up ,
the gas was there but the geology wasn't
https://www.theguardian.com/environment ... rly-halves

I've commented on this situation several times in the past, having had direct experience with projects there. That being said it is challenging because the fracs are not as effective due to lack of brittle characteristics in the Ordovician and Silurian shales. They get gas, just not at the rates required to make it currently economic. That being said Poland does see gas spikes in the winter and have experienced supply interruptions so they have some pressures not experienced elsewhere. Chevron along with the Polish government company are currently exploring for shale gas further south (likely in the Permian) so the fat lady hasn't finished singing yet.

One of the experts here told me years ago the shale/chalk/tight types of rock formation are common all over but only a small percentage of them had the necessary organic inclusions to for methane gas for us to later extract. So are we talking a 25 year supply, a 250 year supply or an effectively unlimited supply?

Not sure there is any complete global inventory, particularly related to economic viability. There are partial inventories of course. Take them for what they are worth, and the geologic research behind them. The USGS does better geology, but their work doesn't tend to be grouped all in one place, and uses different method to come up with their TRR estimates.

That's pretty muc the state of play with fracking ,
in the best case it work , if one has very forgiving investors
in the not so best case , it's a hole in the ground where gas and oil come when pushed out with banknotes

I look upon fracking and tar sands as the last degenerated children of oil drilling
yes they are alive , if under intensive care

"Russia's Nord Stream 2 pipeline will significantly cut gas prices in Europe, energy consultancy says"
https://www.rt.com/business/495823-nord ... es-europe/

"“If Nord Stream 2 remains unfinished, European benchmark TTF gas is expected to average about $4 per million British Thermal Units next year. But if the project can be completed as its backers hope early in 2021, then the average TTF price that year could drop to about $3, we estimate,” analysts at Wood Mackenzie wrote."

I think this is one of the main reasons why the US government is fighting Nord Stream 2 in every way it can. This would drastically reduce or completely eliminate any profits from US LNG exports to Europe.

The Bulgarian regime is an utter joke. It cuts off its nose to spite its face all the time. They shut down a viable four unit nuclear plant and cancelled expansion to six units. Now they have high electricity prices. Meanwhile, Ukraine with all of its problems bothers to keep its nuclear plants going and has much cheaper electricity prices. I have seen some coverage where Bulgaria will no longer serve as the transit country for Turkstream.

I think EU-peons will only wake up from their propaganda induced stupor once their gas bills start to increase. But by then it will be too late. Like Obummer, the current president of the USA and his advisors are under the delusion that Russia is desperate to export its gas to the EU. In the real world, it is starting to build a second massive gas pipeline project to China and its far east LNG export facilities. After 2025 Russia will be able to throw its gas exports east and EU can flail in the wind.

Few in the EU realize the absurdity of a country with no gas export capacity trying to dictate to them who they can get their gas from. If they submit to Uncle Scumbag, they will be importing gas from Qatar and not the USA. They will also be importing Russian LNG. LOL.

For decades Gazprom was making good money from it's exports and had to sell its gas cheaply to the internal Russian market
but things change ,
the domestic price has been slowly increased while the export price is now very low , it make exporting the stuff less of a concern

"'Very serious threats': US reportedly ramps up pressure on Nord Stream 2 contractors"
https://www.rt.com/business/495881-nord ... -pressure/

"The US government has made further attempts to force European firms to ditch the Russian-led Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project, Welt am Sonntag reported, citing people familiar with talks on the issue.
According to the newspaper, officials from US Department of State, the Treasury Department, as well as the Department of Energy approached European contractors to make sure they fully understand the consequences of staying in the project. Up to a dozen officials reportedly held at least two online conferences with representatives of the firms in recent days."

If the Europeans back down on this at this point, they will regret it immensely for a very long time. Russia is certain to raise gas prices to Europe to recoup the investment and sue them, too. Russia would also divert all that gas to China and the rest of Asia by pipelines and to the rest of the world as LNG in a permanent way. Europe is running out of gas and oil, and losing low cost Russian gas imports will seriously damage the European economy and/or its environment if it pushes them to use more coal.

JuanP, who do you know in the Russian gov to give you the authority to act like an expert? LMFAO. What do you know about pipelines and diverting gas? Do you have any references? I think you are talking out your ass emotionally like most of your comments.

It's actually pretty clear , Yamal is liquefying its gas and has build four liquefaction trains
the pipelines are meeting such a stuborn american opposition by all means fair or foul
while the EU is extremely soft in it's defense
it doesn't take a genius to read the runes
a pipeline network is as much a binding tie for the supplier as for the consumer
the decision to pipe East and liquefies more make the European market more marginal
and the selling of the stuff more flexible

P.S. there is more pipelines being planned ....but to china
power of Siberia 2 also called the Altai project

The delusion of US imperial wannabe "law makers" is something else. These clowns really drink their own propaganda koolaid and think that Russia will lose something from the sabotage of NS 2. They also think that they can force Russia to export via the siphoning thieves in Banderastan. Even if they can achieve this in the short term, NS 2, is already being replaced both PS 1 and the yet to be finished PS 2.

PS 1 has an export capacity of 61 bcm. NS 2 was supposed to have an export capacity of 55 bcm. So Russia already has a full bypass of Banderastan in place since it was transiting under 65 bcm through it. In addition, EU-tards serving Uncle Scumbag in Bruxelles were imposing limits on exports via NS 2 in the form of 50% via supposed diversification for other providers which do not exist in this universe. Germany gave Gazprom a 20 year exemption but was waffling to the point of not being predictable. So the real export capacity via NS2 could have been 27.5 bcm.

Russia is not losing anything by transiting gas through Banderastan on a temporary basis to fulfill its contracts. Once the US decider pinheads get their way, Russia will declare force majeur and the EU can flap in the wind. I am sure that the US fake stream media and its EU bootlicks will claim it is all "Russian blackmail", but Russians no longer give a flying f*ck. Eat sh*t, losers.

Ocasio-Cortez Could Deal A Fatal Blow To U.S. Oil Pipelines

https://oilprice.com/Energy/Energy-Gene ... ews+Update)

“Democratic Congresswoman and prominent environmental activist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is now seeking an amendment to the text in the next budget to block the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers from issuing permits to oil and gas infrastructure, HuffPost reports. According to the proposed legislation, “None of the funds made available by this Act may be used by the Corps of Engineers to issue a permit under section 404 of the Federal Water Pollution Control Act (33 U.S.C. 1344) for the discharge of dredged or fill material resulting from an activity to construct a pipeline for the transportation of oil or gas… Ocasio-Cortez’s proposed amendment, however, is unlikely to pass even in the Democrat-majority House where Democrats are not at all on the same page about dropping oil and gas pipeline projects, not to speak of the Republican-majority Senate, which is unlikely to pass such a measure. Still, the proposed legislation highlights the growing divide between environmental justice campaigners and the oil and gas industry, and the ever-growing opposition to pipelines in North America.”

Germany has just sliced off its testicles to score a BS propaganda point on Russia. Supposedly the dissident hero Navalny (grifter with a record of shady business dealings in reality) has been poisoned by the mythical "novichok". This name is a pure concoction of NATO and its assets since it is as stupid as calling VX "newbie". Maybe to the average credulous sap in the west the name "novichok" sounds OK, but it makes me cringe as a native speaker of the language. I am guessing the "chok" in this ridiculous name reminds English speakers of "choke". Stupid.

The other loopy claim is that "novichok" is some chemical only the Russian state could procure. This has got to be one of the most retarded propaganda claims of all time. Not only has the formula for this chemical been published over 25 years ago by the supposed ex-Soviet chemical warfare lab employee who claims the existence of this absurdly named "super deadly" nerve agent, but no chemical in existence has a unique regional identifier proving its creation by any particular party. It's like shooting someone and then claiming that only your enemies have access to bullets. And that is not a stretched analogy, since "novichok" can be manufactured by non-state actors let alone enemy states engaged in a lame frame job.

One thing has repeated itself with Navalny. That is some fringe "Putin critic" who is rapidly fading into political obscurity in Russia is for some bizarre reason being targeted for assassination even though nobody was trying to off him when he was at his peak and over the last 15+ years. This is the same BS as with Litvinenko, the clown who ran around for years claiming he had some documents proving something or other that he never shared with anyone and who endlessly engaged in inane claims like "Putin was behind the Danish Mohammed cartoon scandal". Yeah, sure. Navalny was running around for years claiming the 1990s were some golden era of freedom in Russia when they were a gangster's paradise. Again, to the average resident of NATO this BS may sound plausible, but to the average Russian it is intellectually insulting. In other words, all of these "Putin crticis" are indirect assets for Putin. Putin has no need to off them, especially when they are fading from view. But their NATO handlers who finance them and give them propaganda cover have a clear motive to off them or set up a botched assassination. This way there is a burst of value extracted from these assets as they are showered with sympathy. But these operations only work on westerners since the story is pure nonsense for people who know more than just the CNN et al. spin.

Putin needs to force Gazprom to terminate the Nord Stream II project. Let Germany eat Uncle Scam's LNG (from Qatar). It is not Russia's problem. Russia is making more from its sales of gas to China per energy unit than from sales to the EU. Screw the contracts, blood libel propaganda is enough pretext for a force majeur.

Every smart producer knows the more customers you have bidding for your product or service the better you get paid for supplying their needs. Russia needs Nordstream as a fail-safe in case supplying China falls through for any of a number of reasons.
