I tried posting what I got, but for some reason it didn't work. Could only post what I did. But I'll try again. When I hit the "Last 24 hours" link, I get this:
Could not delete old search id sessions
DEBUG MODE
SQL Error : 1153 Got a packet bigger than 'max_allowed_packet' bytes

I'd continue to quote what I get when I press the "Last 24 hours" link (basically a ton of random numbers and letters), but when I cut and paste it here, I get this when I hit "submit":
Not Acceptable
An appropriate representation of the requested resource /gate.html could not be found on this server.

In other words, everything's all fucked up. That's my technical explanation.

This happens every so often. I don't know why. Server overload perhaps.

The second is a HTTP Error 406 which has to do with some hacker safeguards we have installed. You will get this error message when our software notes something it doesn't like. May be a font, or a special character.

Aaron?

More on this?

Mostly it has to do with the use of the word select.

Example, try to put the words: s*lect fr*m on the same line, replacing the asterisks with the correct letter.

Basically its looking for character strings that could be injected into the SQL server and cause it to do all sorts of horrible things. Look at an SQL manual for other combinations that are likely filtered. All the ones I've been hit on have used the word s*lect.
Yes, we are. As we are.

Yeah it's a SQL glitch/exploit.

I'll find it...

I'm getting this problem also... maybe you need to increase 'max_allowed_packet'? (a MySQL parameter). Although something tells me that will just be a bandaid, but it's worth a try.

I wasn't sure whether to tack this on to the previous thread or start a new one.

"Last 24 hours" is still not working - I think it's been like this for 3-4 days.

The error message is:

Could not delete old search id sessions

DEBUG MODE

SQL Error : 1153 Got a packet bigger than 'max_allowed_packet' bytes

etc.

Thanks.

Is there a 'fix' for this? It seems to be an ongoing problem (at least since I've been a member)

<<I promise this fix this today...>>

It is now tomorrow, and I haven't been able to get in all week :-(

<<SQL Error : 1153 Got a packet bigger than 'max_allowed_packet' bytes>> followed by a SQL statement that is a little over 1MB long.

I guess from this that you've got "max_allowed_packet" set to 1M or lower.

You can increase the value of this parameter in a number of places:

1) In the mysql command line, using the parameter "--max_allowed_packet=8M"

2) In the my.cnf configuration file "SET max_allowed_packet=8M;"

Alternatively, modify modules/Forums/getdaily.php to process a few values at a time, rather than all at once??

Sorry if I'm speaking out of turn here - I'm just a frustrated user trying to be helpful!!!

HHHgnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.....

This is really annoying as it's the only function I use to access this site - I pop in, check the "last 24 hours", then have a quick read, and am on my way again.

I'm not complaining (well I am really, I suppose), but without this function, I haven't been here for over a week. I just don't have the time to trawl through all the forum headers, particularly as the site can be extremely slow at times.

"Last 24 hours" is such a brilliant idea, I have suggested it to a few other forums I visit occasionally - please get it working!!!!!!!!!!

I can smell a conspiracy here!
The last 24 hours is the most used method for browsing the forums.
Some threads have content they don't want the public notice too much.
The last 24 hours search gets disabled till those topics fall behind. No-one reads beyond first page anyway.

Now the question we should be asking is, are the culprits bribed admins, advertisers or them cracking the database when thread about [insert something witty] gets a bump. ;)

Honestly, get and keep it working! pretty please.

Lol Arkwright.

Can I suggest therefore that we ask for a

"Last 48 hours" and
"Last 96 hours" and...

... I'm sure you'll guess the rest of the sequence.
