:?
While I dont agree with the protestors, thats a damned shame. Alot of people have given all to give us the Rights we have. Even as I hate the attacks on my Rights to bear arms by those anti war types, I also dont agree with any attack on their Rights.
Although, in an interesting twist of irony maybe they begin to know how I've felt for the past 15 years.......

Do a Google search in "News" for Indymedia. What you will find will suprise you. At first I did not believe it because the source was a pro-socialist website, but considering that it is now on Expatica located in the Netherlands, InfoZine, out of Kansas City MO, and in the Magic City Morning Star, Magic City ME. I think this is a very good summation of the situation. http://magic-city-news.com/article_2260.shtml To me, this is a blatent act of the opression of freedom of speech. This is AMERICA, not the PRC. While I do not really disagree with the war, I do disagree very much with this action. This is "1984", in 2004. Given this, I will state how I feel, but not in English, nor in one uniforme language. I have used five seperate languages, and the word groups is 1,1, 3, 3, 3. You must know what languages are being used in order to translate this message.

statements from person spoke with Rackspace, Inc which are posted on slashdot:

http://yro.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid= ... 103&tid=17

Info on Server Seizures & Indymedia (Score:5, Informative)
by Yeb (7194) Alter Relationship <moe@blagblagblag ... inus threevowels> on Sunday October 10, @05:03PM (#10487831)
Unknown agents have seized servers. They have yet to issue demands.

I'm the tech who had the contract with Rackspace. My blog has info about this, including copies of the rackspace trouble tickets:

http://jebba.blagblagblag.org [blagblagblag.org]

I'd like to clarify a few misconceptions I see in some slashdot comments (imagine that!):

daveschroeder wrote in comments (he also submitted this story to slashdot):
The bottom line here, for what it's worth, is that the US (or political agents within the US) had absolutely nothing to do with Indymedia's drives being seized, even though that's what 90% of the posters in the original article immediately assumed.

It is believed that it is the US State Department that had the drives (servers?) seized. You say the US had absolutely nothing to do with it? How about the Federal Order? Do you have info I don't have? Sounds very much like US agents are involved...

We do not know for certain whether it is related to Italy or Switzerland or somewhere else. It is a good guess, but still a guess. All we know is that it was a Federal Order from the U. S. of A.

ptitvert wrote in comments:
Indymedia was publishing some pictures of swiss cops under cover with 1 name, addresses from both cops.

Really? Did you ever see the post? I never saw a single name or address of a cop. There was just a newswire submission (very similar to a slashdot comment, except that it's multimedia enabled). See my blog and trouble tickets with rackspace for more info about this issue.

Also, folks write things like:
It could be a story they ran about the Swiss undercover police

Indymedia has feature articles and a newswire. Indymedia "ran a story about undercover cops" in the same way that CmdrTaco ran a story about your comments. Get it? FREE POSTING TO ANYONE WITH A FREAKING MODEM (npi).

Anyway, no one really knows what is going on, and that's the spooky part. I mean, the Feds just yanked the servers and never even contacted us once. And they still haven't. (Um, not that I'm inviting them over for coffee or anything...)

Look! They're just grabbing servers, no comments. This sucks folks, even if you loathe indymedia.

I know there is a lot of noise/spam/junk on indymedia, but there is on slashdot too... Since ANYONE can post, the posts are of greatly varying quality. But Indymedia has some of the best (if not the best) coverage from the street, especially at demonstrations. It does break news which is found no where else. It is extremely valuable for this alone.

Let's say there is a Swiss pharmaceutical company in Ohio that does something the Mexican cops don't like. Do the Swiss cops raid? The Mexicans? It seems we really have Team America: World Police [teamamerica.com].

The rockin' EFF [eff.org] has volunteered to represent me/indymedia pro bono. Very nice. :)

Have fun,

-Jeff

I am a citizen of one of the former socialist countries (Bulgaria) and I could not find any difference between this methods of represion and communist ones. We all know the empire of evil is USSR, but after all this years I think that USSR & USA are the negative and positive pole of all the same empire ( like in magnetism).
I am not anti american or so but really this is extremely dissapointing for us here to see that America shows us the worst we have passed through. :(

This sucks, it seems like our civil liberties are slowly disappearing before our eyes. It seems like freedom of speach is disappearing too. Welcome to a world of 1984, this book written by Geroge Orwell.

Sounds like they're cracking down on militias. Hello, 1990s. This is starting to look like a trend here, whenever a Dem is in office the right wing cranks up the militias.

It seems to be a militia called Hutaree
FBI Raids Suspected Christian Militia Group
The FBI said Sunday that agents conducted weekend raids in Michigan, Indiana and Ohio and arrested at least three people, and a militia leader in Michigan said the target of at least one of the raids was a Christian militia group
Federal warrants were sealed, but a federal law enforcement official speaking on condition of anonymity said some of those arrested face gun charges and officials are pursuing other suspects.

FBI spokeswoman Sandra Berchtold said there had been activity in two southeast Michigan counties near the Ohio state line. She wouldn't say whether they were tied to the raids in the other states.

FBI spokesman Scott Wilson in Cleveland said agents arrested two people Saturday after raids in two Ohio towns. A third arrest made in northeast Illinois on Sunday stemmed from a raid Saturday just over the border in northwest Indiana, both part of an ongoing investigation led by the FBI in Michigan, according to a statement from agents in Illinois.

George Ponce, 18, who works at a pizzeria next door to a home raided in Hammond, Ind., said he and a few co-workers stepped outside for a break Saturday night and saw a swarm of law enforcement.

"I heard a yell, 'Get back inside!' and saw a squad member pointing a rifle at us," Ponce said. "They told us the bomb squad was going in, sweeping the house looking for bombs."

He said another agent was in the bushes near the house, and law enforcement vehicles were "all over." He estimated that agents took more than two dozen guns from the house.

Michael Lackomar, a spokesman for the Southeast Michigan Volunteer Militia, said one of his team leaders got a frantic phone call Saturday evening from members of Hutaree, a Christian militia group, who said their property in southwest Michigan was being raided by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

"They said they were under attack by the ATF and wanted a place to hide," Lackomar said. "My team leader said, 'no thanks.' "

The team leader was cooperating with the FBI on Sunday, Lackomar said. He said SMVM wasn't affiliated with Hutaree, which states on its Web site to be "prepared to defend all those who belong to Christ and save those who aren't."

For all the guns and camo, they didn't seem to be able to hold their own against the dreaded jack-boot thugs.

I am not posting here in favor or disagreement with Hutaree but posting clips with them acting out war and shooting weapons while in military uniforms and calling on people to join then in the fight is not the best way of being covert about their ways.

If a group is going to be on the fringe than they should at least be more underground and less advertisement about their ways.

I read a story of an Israeli reporter who was a former intellegence officer going into Gaza to interview people he interrogated as an officer. His ride to the border tried to give him a gun just before he crossed into Gaza. He thought for a second and said, "If I get into trouble, I am not going to be able to shoot my way out of Gaza."

To these folks I would add, "if the anti-Christ is coming in the way you imagine, you will not shoot your way out."

But hey, who am I to kill their buzz?

There probably ought to be some sort of different name for it. Didn't this Christ fellow preach tolerance, and peace, and love?
