Watertown: The surviving Boston bomb suspect has been identified as Dzhokhar A Tsarnaev, a 19-year-old who had been living in Cambridge, just outside Boston, and a law enforcement intelligence bulletin said he "may be armed and dangerous", The Associated Press reported. AP also reports that both the Boston bomb suspects are from Russia region near Chechnya and that they lived in the US at least for 1 year.

As I head to work, I hear a report that police know the location of the other guy.

What is more telling is that all those freedoms we gave up after 9/11 and all that militarization of law enforcement and the billions spent on homeland security did nothing to make us any safer.

How many attacks have been prevented? 0 bomb attacks in ten years in a nation everybody hates, that's full of nuts and has people freedom to move and do whatever they want. I say this is pretty impressive. I'm surprised there's not a bomb attack every weekend.

Yeah, like a special forces operative would advertise he's a Navy Seal, and 'forget' he's wearing a cap with a big Navy Seals badge on it. Riiiiiight!

Isn't it just a bit more likely that these are common beat cops or even private security personnel who have been pulled in or volunteered to do security duty and are wearing whatever they like? Cops and mall cops are known to cream their pants over any special forces junk. I prefer Occam's Razor to Jerry Fletcher style paranoia.

Just a few thoughts:
-I sincerely hope that Dan and Mos, and any other of our members and their families were not injured in the bombing. (Six Degrees of Peak Oil)
-That a couple of our posters stop using "TPTB" intimidating tactics, labeling events as conspiracies and people who wish to express their opinions, no matter how right or how wrong, as crazy people.
-Never forget that there are people who don't like America, and will have no problem causing mayhem and death, especially where large groups of people are milling about the area.

It was hilarious to hear the news on PBS and NPR this morning. Both networks have invited various "experts" on their shows over the last few days to proclaim that the Boston attacks must be the work of "domestic tea-Party extremists" who travelled to Boston to attack the city. PBS even devoted an hour to a talking heads show from Boston where the "experts" chatted and the exact same kind of bizarre views were presented.

Now it turns out the attackers were classic Islamic terrorists----ethnic Chechnyan Muslims who grew up right in Boston. One NPR host this morning actually personally had met terrrorist #2 and even praised him as a great example of diversity. Wow. She should probably re-think her characterization of terrorist #2.

There are tragic ironies here....for instance, the terrorists were allowed to immigrate to this country because they had a "fear of being persecuted" and terrorist #2 had won a scholarship from the city of Cambridge to help him to college. But they repaid the generosity of the people of Boston by killing and maiming them. Some of the ironies are lighter----for instance the getaway car used by the terrorists had a "coexist" bumper sticker on it---

More will come out----there are now reports that the two men had lots and lots of money, and had started hanging out with a wealthy "foreign" group in Boston. There is report that Terrorist #1 was travelling frequently overseas, and at one juncture spent six months abroad----was he at an Al Qaida camp training? Enquiring minds want to know.

Jury: White supremacist guilty in Arizona bombing
PHOENIX – A white supremacist was convicted in a 2004 bombing that injured a black city official in suburban Phoenix, but his identical twin brother was acquitted.
The federal jury Friday stopped short of finding Dennis Mahon guilty of a hate crime.
The 61-year-old twins from Illinois were on trial for six weeks as dramatic testimony came from the bombing victim and a female government informant dubbed a "trailer park Mata Hari" by defense attorneys.
The jury found Dennis Mahon guilty of three charges in the bombing but found Daniel Mahon, also a white supremacist, not guilty of the one charge he faced: conspiracy to damage buildings and property by means of explosives.

FBI arrests second man tied to local arms stockpile
The FBI in Oklahoma City has arrested a man accused of helping a Nashvillian - who police say pointed an assault rifle toward a Jewish school last week - stockpile enough weapons to arm a ''platoon.''
Oklahoma City agents arrested Jack Ray Spores, 33, at his workplace Tuesday without incident, FBI spokesman Gary Johnson said.
The arrest, Johnson said, was made after FBI agents in Nashville swore out a warrant after talking to Michael Edward Smith.
Smith, 31, is being held on federal weapons charges here. He is accused of pointing an AR-15 assault rifle at the Sherith Israel Congregation school, 3600 West End Ave., and stockpiling a cache of weapons and explosives.
Johnson said Spores made refilled hand grenades and pipe bombs with Smith. The complaint said Smith was trained by the Ku Klux Klan and the neo-Nazi group National Alliance in the use of weapons and sniper techniques. FBI agents have not determined whether Spores has ties to racist groups in the Oklahoma City area, Johnson said.

Authorities in Alabama may have averted another school massacre by arresting a 17-year-old white supremacist who allegedly was building homemade bombs to target African-American students at his school.

KKK Leader, Charles Robert Barefoot Jr., Sentenced On Weapons Charges
Raleigh, NC -- A leader of a Ku Klux Klan group from Benson has been sentenced for his role in a plot against the Johnston County sheriff.
Fifty-year-old Charles Robert Barefoot Jr., was sentenced to 15 years in prison Wednesday. U.S. District Judge Terrence Boyle also ordered Barefoot to serve three years of probation after he completes his prison term.
Barefoot was convicted in September on six counts of weapons and explosives violations. Prosecutors said the charges were related to a plan to kill Johnston County Sheriff Steve Bizzell.
Prosecutors said at the trial that Barefoot blamed Bizzell for the failure of a nightclub Barefoot operated more than a decade ago.
Prosecutors also say Barefoot was upset because Benson officials would not let his group march in the annual Mule Parade. (I really like that part!)
