thank you!
Stop filling dumpsters, as much as you possibly can, and everything will get better.

Just think it through.
It's not hard to do.

Please be considerate of the elderly folk who have poor eyesight and older computers.

We still run with a screen resolution of 800x600. Wide avatars push the forum messages waaaaay over to the right where carpal-tunnel syndrome inducing scrolling is required to read them.

You may tell me "go buy a new LCD monitor loser!", but I really don't want to. My old CRT monitors have lots of life left in them.

The problem continues. I try GIFs and JPEGs, all in accordance with the 145 pixel by 97 pixel by 10 KB spec, and all I get is the little red "X".

I reduce them to actually be smaller than the specs, with no better result.

*sighs*

As I said above, try to have your image somewhere else on the net (not peakoil) and link to it.

Try mine for example:

Works every time.

Well, it sure works this time. Thank you!

(Seems like I tried that before with no luck , but maybe I blew the link or something...)

Somtimes it works, and sometimes not. I think the two servers are configured (or populated) differently. For example, paste this into your browser (it's the link to my avatar)

http://www.peakoil.com/modules/Forums/i ... c73d8b.gif

Sometimes it comes up and sometimes not. Just like my avatar when posting - sometimes its included, and sometimes not. The CODE is there on the page, but the image does not show.

See?? See??? No Avatar!

<------------------------------------------------------------------------

View source, though, and see that the link IS there.

Omygosh - NOW it's there! Anyway, something is AFU.

Aha! That's the problem! Switch to FireFox and all your problems will vanish! I bet you're still using buggy virus-sucking old Winblow$ too, aren't you?

Whoa! Hang on! Sorry... Nevermind, you just triggered some old Slashdot reflexes. Funny, it's like riding a bike, you never forget... Firefox REALLY is better though, on Windows, Mac, AND Linux...
Good night, and good luck...

My guess is that it's because your HTML sucks. :-D

Yeah, I sure miss getting up everyday to see that funny pic of a SUV owner driving while his dog walks alongside them. That was priceless.

There is some ongoing maintance going on with the site. It is my understanding that they will be returning.

Thanks

I've noticed the server is a lot faster now.
Is there a relationship between speed and not having Avatars?

The increased speed came from a significant upgrade in server. The absence of the avatars is a result of some work being done to "clean up" the code. So they are both a part of a process of house cleaning but are not directly related.
