Ignore list help

Unread postby green_achers » Sun 19 Oct 2008, 15:56:12

Oops, I accidentally seem to have added someone to the ignore list. How do I undo that?

For the sake of an experiment I tried ignoring two random members: one a moderator and one not. The moderator's messages could still be seen while the other was effectively ignored.

As a result I am going to go out on a limb and say that you cannot ignore airlinepilot because he is a mod. I consider this reasonable since even if you did not want to see or read his position as a participant he still might, at some point, need to say something regarding the management of the site that you would need to hear... like:

[marq=left]Objectionable content removed by wisconsin_cur[/marq]

or

Doomer vs corny cage match pay per view special! Call you cable company today!

or maybe even

Cur is correct; mod posts override the Ignore feature. You'll just have to learn to scroll past...

Mods are like the Federal Goobermint of Peak Oil. You wish they would just disappear, they aren't terrifically effective at maintaining control, but you can't ignore them. :-)

It's a compromise of course.

But don't feel too bad... they are not allowed to ignore you either.

I know :-) We all have our crosses to bear. I just try to keep everybody honest. Not always an easy task for a powerless peon member like myself, but I try to carry the torch for Freedom of Speech here on Peak Oil, best I can against the Goobermint of Mods. Without getting my a$$ kicked off the board of course. LOL.

Free speech has no bigger advocate than myself here on PO.com.

Ask any staffer... I regularly argue for tolerance.

Then again, there's a fine line between "fishing" & just standing on the shore looking like an idiot.

Actually all things considered, this is probably one of the most tolerant forums on the Net. Aside from a prohibition on exhorting others to commit illegal acts, which is perfectly reasonable due to possible liability issues, about the only other limitations I see are that there is an expectation that folks retain at least a basic level of civility, and that they refrain from actions which tend to impede the use of the site by others, such as posting oversize images or really long links. Beyond that there's not much of anything as far as I've seen that can't be discussed here, as long as one is sensible about how one does so...

I don't see what's so offensive about AirlinePilot other than the fact that his career involves emitting massive amounts of CO2. At least it's a job for him to fly unlike, let's say, Bob Lutz and Travolta with their personal jets.

True. Still... I read somewhere that the 'average' human exudes around 800 lbs. of CO[sub]2[/sub] per year. That's 24 tons over 60 years of life, which for a population of 7 billion is 168 billion tons of CO[sub]2[/sub], 2.8 billion tons per year just from people breathing.

Yet another argument in favor of dieoff...
