Week beginning on August 11, 2019: 410.24 ppm
Weekly value from 1 year ago: 407.07 ppm
Weekly value from 10 years ago: 385.95 ppm
I should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, design a building, write, balance accounts, build a wall, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, pitch manure, program a computer, cook, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.

Sooo, within a very few months, we can kiss any numbers below 410 goodbye, basically forever, right?

Based on the recent past I would say no less than two nor more than 14 months.

Why China’s CO2 emissions grew 4% during first half of 2019

That's quite a jump from the world's largest emitter. I wonder if/when that will show up in the atmospheric data...

The good news in the report was how the increase in power production was almost fossil fuel free.

Also
Solar “grid parity” – where the technology can compete on price even with coal – appears to have arrived.

Thanks, but really the only good news worth the name would be seeing the actual Keeling curve start to curve the other way!

Until that happens, all the rest is just noise.

Not the latest breaking news, but good to keep in mind for the larger perspective:

Earth’s carbon dioxide levels are likely the highest they've been in 15 million years

https://mashable.com/article/climate-ch ... ion-years/

...Some folks in the climate community, though, have even argued that today’s climate has the highest concentration of total greenhouse gases — when gases like methane (natural gas) and nitrous oxide are added to the mix — in 20 million years.

This idea, called the “carbon dioxide equivalent” has some support in the climate community, though a variety of climate scientists we reached out to weren’t aware of research supporting this 20 million-year claim...

hello All,

the ten year average I have seen is like this ;-

1980-1990 - 15 ppm approx increase
1990-2000 - 15 ppm approx increase

then China started its economic engines and burned more coal and other fossil fuels

2000-2010 - 24 ppm approx increase
2010-2019 -23 ppm approx ( yes incomplete until the end of next year )

so if the series continues with no change we should see by 2030 CO2 to be around 433 -/+ a few ppm .....

hopefully this trend will not continue .

Also given the estimated coal and oil ( not calculated for Nat gas yet ) if we burn it all then getting to 630ppm* will take 80 years approx , say 3 generations . With Nat gas replacing coal and wind/solar we still have a problem as Nat gas generation emits about half the C02 of coal.

no calculation has been done yet for methane.

Hmmm, time will tell.

Forbin

* some none net papers I have seen have estimated that the Greenland ice sheet will not exist with such levels, and Antarctic ice will not exist at levels of approx 900ppm

no calculation has been done yet for methane.
