Petrobras board give green light for 21 drill rigs
The board of directors of Brazilian state-owned oil company Petrobras has given its approval for the bidding process to award contracts for up to 21 offshore drilling rigs that will be built in Brazil.

Petrobras says it will award two contracts for each rig: one a leasing contract with the successful bidder, and the other a rig operation service contract with a company experienced in operating offshore drilling rigs.

Companies invited can submit a proposal for one or more batches of one or more rigs, up to a total of 21 units. Each rig will require a minimum of Brazilian content as specified by the National Petroleum Agency (ANP).

The bidding process is part of a strategy for contracting up to 28 new drilling rigs to be built in Brazil for exploration in ultra-deep waters, including the pre-salt fields.

In February this year, Brazil's Atlântico Sul Shipyard (EAS) won the bid to build seven drill ships for Petrobras. The final price amounted to $4.6 billion (a figure of around $662 million per drill ship). Korea's Samsung Heavy Industries is a partner in EAS.

RIO DE JANEIRO (Reuters) - Brazil’s oil regulator ANP on Wednesday released details about the upcoming auctions of oil exploration rights in the promising pre-salt offshore area that are scheduled for Oct. 27.

Through production sharing contracts, firms will be able to bid on eight blocks in the Santos and Campos basins, including three prospects for which state-controlled oil giant Petroleo Brasileiro exercised its preferential rights.

Those rights mean Petrobras could take at least a 30 percent stake in the prospects and share them with whichever consortium offers the government the most oil in exchange for the block.

However, under the rules published Wednesday, Petrobras would have 30 minutes to decide if it wants to participate with the winning consortia in the three fields in question.

The rules also revise technical criteria for choosing operators as well as the system for submitting bids.

Brazil’s government wants to speed up oil exploration as a way to boost economic activity and help the country overcome its worst recession on record.

Petrobras has long dominated the Deep Water rig market. Haven't kept track but several years ago it had 19 of the 21 untra Deep Water rigs under long term contract.

Brasilia, Mar 6 (Prensa Latina) A total of 21 foreign and Brazilian companies is taking part at the fifteenth bidding of the National Oil, Natural Gas and Biofuels Agency for land and maritime blocs, Petrobras reported.

From the registered enterprises, only Petronas, Cobra and Wintershall have no contract for oil and gas exploration and production so far, Petrobras pointed out while presenting the analysis done by the Special Bidding Commission.

Some 17 companies are bidding for maritime blocs, while 4 are doing it for land areas; they will be made public at the Official Journal of the Union, as well as at the Brazil Rounds website.

According to Petrobras press handout, the bidding rounds for 2018 kick off a new cycle in the Brazilian oil industry with different profile areas in segmented undertakings.
