Thanks for keeping the thread at the top of the queue where everyone can see the title everytime they glance down. It really helps spread the message, so...thanks again! :-D :-D

It's not you or me that is the problem . . . its the thread. It's stupid. Unfortunately (apparently for you, you are disturbed by my participation) YOU are the only participant to reflect upon.

So that makes you (and only you) responsible for the thread, and thus the target of its justifiable abuse lol

As global demand booms, a tax on meat may be a way of discouraging overconsumption and paying for the environmental damages of the livestock industry, a new report suggests. But critics believe it would disproportionately affect the poor.

Experts Say We Should Tax Meat Eaters the Same Way We Tax Smokers

Thank, C, I agree! :-D :-D

Except where outright rationing or banning is more appropriate, as with fossil-death-fuels!

And...speaking of taxes...

Meat tax ‘inevitable’ to beat climate and health crises, says report

In Australia, a dry continent, free range, grass fed, meat production is done on land that is not suitable for any other form of farming.
Around here its beef country thousands of acres of farms the size of states with zero rainfall for 6 months of the year and floods for a few months of the year and rocky poor soils.
Sheep country is again fairly poor, dry land not suitable for agriculture.
Goat country is hilly scrub not suitable for agriculture.
And its not just feeding Australia its feeding lots of Asia and the Middle East
So to replace all these protein sources with vegetable protein would require lots of land clearing and lots of water and lots of diesel to run the machinery.

Nice and clear, shaved. Basic understanding that folks all over the world get. Ruminants each dried grass, twigs, sticks . . .

. . . and even paper, and turn waste into a valuable food source on land that has little or no use. Except to the goats. Heirloom groovy goats for the foodies lol

Dohboi would rather the poor starve then allow them their food. That is some haughty 1st World presumption.

For the record, I don't give a rat's tush what the poorest 2 billion or so eat. They are not the problem.

I do know that most of the meat eaten by most of the top 20% (all of us) is mostly unsustainable, and the grains used to top most of the cafo stuff off could be used to feed many of the world's poor...but the delusional will continue to rationalize their own comfortable habits in the name of...whatever...

Are we ‘Beyond Meat’?

Unread postby AdamB » Mon 15 Jan 2018, 00:21:50

With the world’s population increasing, we’re increasingly seeing pollution and the mass consumption of land jeopardising the earth’s future for generations to come. Can we help? Slowly, people are realising the importance in nurturing the earth and what can be done to positively progress. Start-up ‘envirotech’ companies are using their knowledge of global warming to make a positive imprint on the earth. Many have gained the interest of some of the richest people in the world, allowing them to push their business further and create more awareness. Read on as we look at whether meat-free life could solve some of our problems. The global demand for meat A quarter of the world’s emissions are a by-product of the global food industry, part of that being meat production. With livestock being responsible for 18% of greenhouse gases and playing a large part in water

The shooter at youtube the other day was a vegan and a PETA supporter. I guess killing humans, at least for her, is not as bad as killing a cow.

Yes, that isn't about the wildly ready availability of guns in this country, nor about mental health of one particularly off-kilter woman...and while you're at it, why not drag out the the tired old cliche "Hitler was a vegetarian" canard as if there is any causal link between that and his rabid, genocidal lunacy. Hey, he also promoted exercise...maybe people who exercise are all potential little Hitlers! :-D

But while we're at it, there isn't really a contradiction between veganism and killing people. Yes, some vegans care for individual lives of animals more than individual lives of humans, but not to generally to the point of going on a shooting rampage (though it might be a good idea not to mess with gun-toting vegans ! :-D ).

But many are vegans because animal ag is such a big part of how humans are killing the planet, rather than about the suffering of any individual animal (human or non-). In theory, there would be no internal contradiction between their veganism and taking out an animal or two, human or non-. But I don't know of any vegans myself that aren't also pretty committed pacifist and general haters of all kinds of violence.

Correlation does NOT equal causation Cog. I do think one motivation of those who are Vegan is they are adverse to animal cruelty and killing. That line of thinking would indicate probably someone who is sensitive and adverse to violence in general among living beings.

A more precise and fair title would be - families larger than 2 children has killed the planet and our future.

Using meat as the the cause is totally idiotic and shows that the person has an agenda and ignores reality. If everybody was vegan and we got to be for example 20 billion people - the same problem would exist which means vegan is not a solution and thus cant be the cause.

This is one awesome meat eater. Filmed today at Mount Totumas. It inspired in my head a science fiction apocalyptic horror movie of a pepsid wasp that was exposed to nuclear radiation at Fukushima and mutated into a giant that then starts laying its eggs in humans and multiplies into the millions as it ravages the human population.

Enjoy......
