Mexican gas prices set to skyrocket

Mexico gasoline prices to rise as much as 20.1 percent in January: government
Wow, that is a pretty noteworthy rise. That surely will lead to some instability among the citizens and consequently some more migration into US. With that also resulting violence as the whole border has become so criminalized. So we shall see what the fallout will be.

And if you didn't read the link: why? "It's an important change," Finance Minister Jose Antonio Meade said in a local radio interview. "It's a change that will allow prices to reflect costs, and avoid artificial distortions." IOW the govt had beern subsidizing motor fuel. Not sure what the number is now but a few yeasrs ago Mexico was spending about 2/3 of it oil export revenue importing refined products. As pointed out earlier Mexico became a net fossil fuel importer 2 years ago.

Starman - "...you're not one of those crazy anti-fracting leftist types? " Hell no. I'm one of those with no interest in shale frac'ng because it don't produce an acceptable profit margin for my owner.

http://www.breitbart.com/border/2017/01 ... ice-riots/

As Breitbart Texas has been reporting, a series of spikes in the price of gasoline has resulted in thousands of Mexicans taking to the streets to protest the actions of Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto, whose reforms have been blamed for the crisis. In cities like Monterrey, Nuevo León, the protest have turned violent resulting in rioting, looting, and other acts of vandalism....

Good old Platts is on track

Houston (Platts)--30 Dec 2016 449 pm EST/2149 GMT

Mexico's record-low refinery production and growing consumer demand helped push US gasoline exports there to a new high in October, a trend that has boosted prices in both countries.

Gasoline exports to Mexico climbed 1.86 million barrels to 12.08 million barrels in October, according to US Energy Information Administration data released Friday, the highest total since that data started being tracked in 1993. The previous peak was 11.42 million barrels in December 2010.

Mexico is by far the largest importer of US gasoline, taking in 45.8% of the 177.4 million barrels of finished gasoline the US exported through October of this year.

That export demand has pushed prices to unseasonably strong levels in the US Gulf Coast, which typically sees demand weaken during the fall and winter months....
