Slashings come a day after a 25-year-old waiter was slashed in the face in a Greenwich Village diner

Two men have become the latest victims of random slashings in New York City in less than 24 hours as fears continue to grow among residents concerning the frightening trend.

A 21-year-old man was left with about a four-inch-long gash across his face after he was slashed by a ski-masked wearing man as he came out of a SoHo clothing store on Thursday, police said.

A woman who lives in the area and saw the victim said it looked like he had been stabbed in the side shoulder and that 'there was blood all the way down his shoulder,' NBC New York reported.

She added that she is 'not as comfortable in the city right now,' following the recent spate of slashings on the city's streets and inside subways.

This is how liberals destroy their own dreams and self-sabotage.

They want to save the environment and increase public transportation

But they attack cops and gun owners- and crime rises out of control

Who would want to use public transportation in NYC and expose themselves to the slashers?

Who would even want to LIVE in NYC and lower their carbon footprint? I will take the suburbs and my car over having to look at a hideous slash for the rest of my life.

Dems can't have it both ways: can't be soft on criminals and ask people to mingle

Its so sad how this party continues to self-destruct: green dreams into dark nightmares

Perchance can you move your political rants out of the form for Conservation & Efficiency?

nope- this issue totally impacts efficiency, only a blind person can't see that

A blind man is someone who takes a random event from a population of 300 million and then draws conclusions.

You are correct about that Ibon, totally correct. But we live in a media age- and horrific events will be publicized endlessly. Their impact on public behavior is magnified a great deal- which is why I posted this thread. People are reading about this every day in NY and its scaring folks. Uber is on the rise partly out of a fear of the criminal element that seems to be growing in large cities and the desire to avoid public transportation.

It should be noted that all forms of crime are rising in NYC. The police have been ordered to stop frisking folks and so criminals now feel free to carry whatever weapons they choose.

Many white eco-liberals live as far away from "people of color" as they can, places like Portland, Vermont, etc. (you can see this divide in the Sanders/Clinton race). These folks look at 99% white Sweden as their utopia. They are detached from reality. They see energy efficiency only in technical terms - to them, its a mystery why people wouldn't take buses in big cities. They dream of public transit, energy efficient cities, etc. but these dreams are destroyed by the "pro criminal" elements of the Democratic party who have been successful at making low impact city living into a nightmare.

Crime is inefficient- it causes people to spend all kind of energy to safeguard themselves and their possessions. Crime leads to huge losses of energy- it destroys "grand visions". Crime may be the biggest inefficiency of all (what good are solar panels if they are ripped off). The negative elements of the Democratic Party are winning out over the positive folks there.

C8 is correct about all of this. Crime is a big deterrent to people wanting to live in a city and lowering their carbon footprint. And the inner city schools are a zoo. I could live a couple of blocks from work in a nice loft but no way I am going to subject my family to the whims of the criminal class.

They mostly come at night, mostly.

Subway rider slashed in face on Upper East Side

A straphanger was slashed in the face and hand while riding the subway through the Upper East Side on Friday morning, authorities said.

The 53-year-old man had just boarded a northbound train at the 5th Ave. – 59th St. N/Q/R station when he bumped into his attacker around 8:15 a.m., cops said.

The two men got into an argument before the unidentified suspect pulled out a sharp object and slashed the man on the chin and hand. He fled when the train arrived at the next station.

The injured man then got off the train and walked out of the Lexington Ave. – 59th St. station and called 911.

Paramedics were called and found the man with cuts to the face and hand on East 63rd Street near Madison Avenue around 8:45 a.m., the FDNY said.

The victim was taken to Lenox Hill Hospital in stable condition.

Police are investigating the incident, officials said. No arrests have been made.

Another slashing today. What is particularly disturbing is how short the sentence was given for the murderer- in liberal NY you get to kill people in a gruesome fashion (with an ice pick) and come back out pretty quickly. Who wants to take this public transportation? Screw the environment.

Man slashed in the face by violent ex-con in subway station

http://nypost.com/2016/02/29/man-slashe ... y-station/

A man was slashed in the face at a Brooklyn subway station Monday morning when he woke up the wrong sleeping straphanger — a violent ex-con who served time for stabbing someone to death with an ice pick.

Ricardo Medina, 33, was at the Classon Avenue G train station on the Queens-bound platform when he attempted to wake 54-year-old Anthony Purdie, who was catching some shuteye on one of the benches around 3:15 a.m., according to sources.

Medina later told police he tried shaking Purdie to make sure he was all right.

Little did he know that the man he was checking has been arrested more than a dozen times, including for assault, robbery and murder, for which he served 14 years.

When Purdie jolted awake, he started barking at Medina and the two men started arguing, sources said.

That’s when the career criminal pulled out a box cutter and sliced the Queens resident across the nose.

After the slashing, Purdie fled the station and ran to the 88th Precinct, where he told cops that someone had tried to rob him.

Minutes later, Medina walked into the same police station and pointed out Purdie as the man who cut him, according to police.

Purdie was arrested and charged with assault and menacing.

His long rap sheet dates back to the late ’80s and early ’90s and includes his 14-year stint for murder, after he stabbed someone to death with an ice pick in Brooklyn.

Medina also has a long history with the law — including over a dozen arrests for robbery, assault and burglary.
