What's the deal with each post requiring a CAPTCHA?

Unread postby Beery1 » Sun 21 Jul 2013, 12:45:14

Just this last week, the forums have been requiring me to copy a CAPTCHA phrase before it will post my messages. I have a lot of trouble copying these as my eyesight is not what it used to be. The CAPTCHA page says to check for viruses - I've done that and my computer appears clean. It's really frustrating.

Is this going to be an ongoing feature of the forums? Is there any way to avoid it?

This only pertains to those on the NSA watch list.

'skiddin,
we've asked Admin about it, it's another feature of Cloudflare so not sure how much we can do and keep the benefits of caching...

It only happens to me sometimes.

Also, sometimes when I do get through the CAPTCHA wall, the result is just the post I was quoting, without my comments.

Well at least these captchas are readable because on most sites I can't even decipher them

Captcha is getting out of hand. (Has AI taken over?)

It refuses all correctly entered attempts and erases the post. I can't even get a preview or save a draft. Translating and formatting takes time. This is getting old.

The FU*KING captcha filter is UNREADABLE. It is harassing my every post and sent me back to the input window with my original text deleted more than once.

Force people to reset their passwords or something more intelligent than this ludicrous filter.

Dr. Peter Venkman: All right, I'm gonna turn over the next card. Concentrate... I want you to tell me what you think it is.
[Holds up the card]
Male Student: Uh, square.
Dr. Peter Venkman: Good guess, but wrong.
[Turns over the card and zaps the male student]
Dr. Peter Venkman: [to the female student] Okay,
[Holds up another card]
Dr. Peter Venkman: what is this?
Female Student: Is it a star?
Dr. Peter Venkman: It "is" a star,. very good.
Dr. Peter Venkman: [to the male student, and holding up another card] Concentrate. Tell me what this is.
Male Student: Circle.
Dr. Peter Venkman: [Turns over the card] Ooohhh, Close. But most definately wrong.
[Zaps the male student again]
Dr. Peter Venkman: [to the female student] Clear your head.
[Holds up another card]
Dr. Peter Venkman: what is it?
Female Student: A figure 8.
Dr. Peter Venkman: That's 5 for 5, you can't see these can you?
Female Student: No.
Dr. Peter Venkman: You're not cheating me, are you?
Female Student: No. I swear, they're just coming to me.
Dr. Peter Venkman: [to the male student] Nervous?
Male Student: [Really is nervous] Yes, I don't like this.
Dr. Peter Venkman: [Holds up another card] We've only got 75 more to go, c'mon what this one.
Male Student: It's, a couple of wavy lines.
Dr. Peter Venkman: [Puts card down] Sorry, this isn't your lucky day.
Male Student: Yeah, I...
[Peter's hand slowly reaches for the zapping trigger]
Male Student: I uh, uh, I uh, I uh.
[Zap]
Male Student: [Annoyed] I'm getting a little tired of this.
Dr. Peter Venkman: You volunteered, didn't you? We're paying you, are we?
Male Student: Yeah, but I didn't know you we're gonna be giving me electric shocks. What are trying to prove here, anyway.
Dr. Peter Venkman: I'm studying the effect on negative reinforcement on ESP ability.
Male Student: [Aggravated] Effect? I'll tell you the effect is, it's pissing me off!

It is most likely a commie conspiracy. I only get a capcha when I type out a brilliant refutation of socialist policies of Obama and not when I post a one line snarky comment.

Forward.

If that's the case, the conspiracy is pretty dumb not to include Planty in the harassment.

The beast is wounded, not dead, I am getting CAPTCHA annoyances approximately half as frequently as yesterday. To be fair, my Norton 360 did intercept a series of a dozen unauthorized file access attempts last night using the new "Suspicious.Cloud.9" detection protocol. Somebody is sniffing around the Forum looking for vulnerable users - make sure your security tool is up to date and run a full scan ASAP.

Suspicious.Cloud.9 has been round for a couple of years and is intended to catch malware without a signature, so has a high false positive rate. And it's generally used for downloaded files, not web content. And do not conflate that with the CAPTCHA. I'd suggest you install something like malwarebytes and perform a full scan on your machine as it's more likely a problem on your machine than a problem with the site.

Edit: I use ad-blockers so don't know if this site serves ads. If it does, they could possibly come from there. They're a huge malware vector.
What we think, we become.
