CloudFlare blocking posts?

Unread postby Pops » Thu 01 May 2014, 17:22:06

I've had several posts blocked by Cloudflare recently, anyone else?

Although it has not happened to me personally, I have heard of similar problems. It probably means that the post that got blocked contained a keyword that was being used in a denial-of-service attack, either on PO.com or another virtual server on the same physical server as PO.com.

If it really bugs you, you could use a process of elimination to determine which word it was. But it's also possible that you will never know, if the attack ended and the word was pulled from the hotlist by one of their support people.

I lost a post the other day, but not sure of the reason. May have because someone posted ahead of me.

Thanks - It should be better now.
Pops - Cloudflare thought your posts was an SQL Injection attack. I will alert them to the false positive.

I have changed the cloudflare settings, so suspicious posts should no longer be blocked. cloudflare might instead "challenge" you to make sure you are human.

I'm having a problem with Cloudflare as well, error 522 - which occurred just attempting to view the website. About 12 error messages in a row about 40 minutes ago.

PO.com is under some sort of SPAM attack. 1000+ SPAM comments posted and deleted today.
It's slowing the server. I will see what I can do, but not much short-term.

For a few days I had the CloudFlare-CAPTCHA problem now. A lengthy review I just posted required two CAPTCHAs in a row; luckily I had saved the text before posting. This test post got through unhindered after I deleted all cookies via the link at the bottom. Maybe post a warning somewhere?

I find that long posts seem to get nailed now and then. Copying one's text for long posts is probably a good idea. I lost at least one long post over the past year when CloudFlare seemed to go haywire.
Given the track record of the perma-doomer blogs, I wouldn't bet a fast crash doomer's money on their predictions.

This happened to me a few times. I had a long post and it kept recycling back to the CAPTCHA. And no matter how many times I solved it I could not post. So I spit the post into 2 and managed to post without the CAPTCHA request. I too recommend people save long posts before posting. Just select everything and "Ctrl-C" should be enough to paste the post later if things go bad.

CloudFlare blocking posts

Unread postby Michaelthari » Mon 19 Aug 2019, 06:30:25

Is there a tab somewhere that alters how many posts appear before a new page loads up or is it just 25 posts per page no matter what?

i usually have it to 50 per page but just cant seem to find it.

Given the rash of new posts that seem to be advertising various drugs, I'd say the same thing is happening and perhaps a couple dozen or so (I didn't count) have leaked through.

Hopefully this can be remedied as IMO, if this continues unabated it really detracts from the site.

We are deleting as fast s we can. Obviously we can’t sit in the site 24/7. But we get ‘em when we can.

You guys are only seeing a bit of it. 8O

Which is what I thought, and implied when I said "leaked through".

Appreciate the efforts. Unless you want to screen all posts of new members and only let reviewed posts go through, stopping it all is probably impractical, sadly enough.
