I would start with rigzone.com. We've gotten at least a few bites there for software engineers with geophysics, petroleum engineering and/or geology experience, but there aren't very many of these folks out there. Expect to pay top dollar for any Measurement/Metering Engineers you find. Schlumberger tends to hoover up those folks.

rather than spamming discussion boards dedicated to matters tangentially related why not just sign up for linkedin?
I am inundated by emails from head hunters who have found me on linked in. There are dedicated discussions to jobs in various areas.

Search linkedin for "metrology engineer"

I actually have experience in metrology engineering but not directly related to the oil industry. It would be helpful to know what is being measured or calibrated because you can find engineers working in other industries that have the skills you are looking for.

Great to be part of the forum. I don't really have a strong opinion about what the future holds. On the one hand, I see the rationale behind peak oil, but on the other hand, I think that there is enough oil to run this planet for a long time.

Howdy all

Unread postby SamInNebraska » Sun 14 Oct 2012, 23:10:15

Sam here, from the land about to be defiled by TransCanada. Was wandering around the web and noticed that quite a few pipeline protest threads showed up in resource scarcity forums, and one thing led to another.

Hope to stick around and see what is up.

None, ethanol is an American scandal.

What you need is a $3 tax a gallon on gas, at least, quick.

Hey Sam, here is a thread about the pipe,
post1063441.html?hilit=pipeline#p1063441
The legitimate object of government, is to do for a community of people, whatever they need to have done, but can not do, at all, or can not, so well do, for themselves -- in their separate, and individual capacities.

Now those are some opinions! My distaste tends to be just the idea of any bitumen laden line coming anywhere near either the Nebraska National Forest or any of the sand hills, but I would have thought there would be more support for it on just the basis of the resources it can bring down into the US for consumption.

I think it's nonsense to take natural gas and cook up this crap, then thin it so it will run in a pipeline. It will despoil millions of acres of land that might soon be useable for farming, so that we can drive around in giant cars for a few more years.

They wouldn't be able to do it if people didn't buy it. But they do. So they do. Just wish they could pick someplace else to run the pipe. Like Wisconsin.

It might despoil the land. But the odds of the "might" are high enough for it to be put somewhere else.

Hello to the readers of Peak Oil

Unread postby EMF » Tue 16 Oct 2012, 16:19:48

Hi

I'm EMF. Thought I’d introduce myself. I joined because I wanted to learn and discuss topics on the production and outcomes of using oil but also topics of our world’s consumption of resources, effects on the environment of these resources and renewable energy.

I am a forum newbie so does anyone know a good place to start?

Thanks!

Welcome EMF!

Just dive right in. There are a wide range of topics being discussed at any given time so you can pick and choose based on whatever you find interesting. Some discussions get a little bit heated--ignore those----but there is a lot of valuable information here on almost any topic having to do with Peak Oil.

You could start in 2004 and work your way through (just kidding).

Slightly more seriously:
Hmmm, that's a tough question. You could start a thread under Open Topic Discussion entitled "peakoil.com - Where to Start?". I think there have been discussions touching on this, but they are probably a bit stale.

And less seriously, are you ElectroMotive Force or ElectroMagnetic Field or ???.
Facebook knows you're a dog.

Hi EMF, you could try 10 facts: 10-basic-facts-of-peak-oil-t61588.html

And in the sidebar: http://peakoil.com/what-is-peak-oil/
