Greetings from New Orleans!

Unread postby HylianTom » Mon 02 Jul 2012, 01:09:16

Hi - I've been following energy and sustainability issues since about 2003, and have been on and off of this site since 2004.. I just figured that it's time I start talking with others about it more. I've been on LATOC and other PO-related boards in the past, but my activity has taken a dip as of late in the past few years as I've worked towards my end goals.

My partner and I reside in New Orleans. When I told my parents that we were moving into town, they made us promise to live where it hasn't flooded in several hundred years - which means we moved uptown, just off the streetcar route. We'll be doing the urban homesteader thing over the coming years, killing debts, getting solar panels, planting gardens, collecting rainwater, raising chickens, building a very small concrete home, etc etc. I'm kinda banking on a slow decline, with the occasional precipitous/star-steppy declines (like 2008).. so living close to work is going to be a huge help for us.

Interesting times ahead!
