Newbie from NC and TX

Hi, I'm a newbie from NC and TX. Intrested in getting off grid some day, and stealth prepping. How to prepare for the future when the rest of your household is not worried at all. I read and understand the code of conduct. Thanks for having me.

Hi aha, welcome.

Hope you aren't commuting from TX to NC daily! :-D

Welcome to the forum. Can you tell us more about the community you're starting.. is it like a transition town? Do you have others signed up already, and what are the details do you already have the land and renting plots or is everyone going in it together?

New here

Unread postby SilverSlippers77 » Sun 08 May 2011, 15:53:01

Hello, I'm a new member. I'm an Agronomy student in the midwest and got interested in Peak Oil discussions at my Student Farm club meetings. (Its a campus group where we learn about sustainable/organic farming techniques and get to practice them on a plot of land right outside town). We had a speaker about permaculture earlier this semester and I started reading stuff online. I've honestly been sometimes lurking here for the past few months but decided I've read enough to join in some conversations.

Hi SS77, Welcome!

What branch of ag are you interested in?

I"m studying the soil and environmental aspect of agronomy, but I still do stuff with plants because they are typically why we analyze soils.

Welcome. I'm a bit of a plant geek myself, recently finished a horticulture degree and currently work full time on an organic farm. Looking forward to your contributions.

Well, I'm back

Unread postby RedStateGreen » Sun 12 Jun 2011, 16:25:45

Howdy everyone,

Been lurking for a while now and decided to come back, if only to post in the prep boards. My life was getting dull without you.

Let's see ... since I was last here I started an online business (link should be in the sig or else in my profile). I figure it'll give me another source of income as well as portability. Should the worst happen I'll be a refugee with a paycheck.

But it also got me on the ball as far as getting my yard in order -- not wanting to be a hypocrite, and besides I like food gardening anyway. I've been putting in planting beds and ripping out non-edible shrubs and generally redoing my landscaping.

Anyway, that's about it. Nice to be back.

Glad to read you're back.

I enjoyed reading your posts.

Welcome back, RSG. I think the Planning Forum most certainly is the most important for those who already understand the concept of Peak Oil and what we expect will eventually happen.
Of course, we continue to document the downward spiral of resources, and, discuss the consequences of hydrocarbon depletion with the newbies & doubters! :)

First, welcome back RSG! I was away for awhile, depending on spouse for PO news. But started posting again recently, too.

Planning Forum is ABSOLUTELY why I hang around PO.com. Knowledge is power ... and/or survival ! !

Glad to see you here again.
