Of course there are Japs who realize the demographic problems, articles about the issue are translated & published here in Australia a couple of times a year. Most recently one went viral about Japanese girls lack of interest in sex.
Even if a wonderful new source of energy like cold fusion were developed we still would have to reduce population levels and consumption levels of the more affluent classes. The Earth is reaching threshold levels in various categories and ecosystems services. Just for examples: topsoil; fresh water; climate stability; forest/trees (Amazon); Phosphate; capacity for planet to handle our waste to name some. Yes a new prodigious energy source would help in some matters but would probably make things worse in others especially the ability to once again over consume and over populate. I have seen no evidence of our ability to restrain both consumption and population. So, I must conclude that some magnificent new energy source may not be the panacea humanity thinks it might be.I think we can all agree that population levels will have to fall if a new energy source is not developed.

And then maybe our society wouldn't be so extremly afraid of dying.
Let dying be be a right and not just a curse forced upon us by religious fear mongers.
