The only person who got you hyped up that the end of the world was just around the corner ... was you. Some of us here never got hyped up about anything, because we were too smart to buy into the end of the world hype. You were just gullible.

The current shutdown lays bare just how much economic activity and resource consumption is unneeded to keep the lights on and everyone fed and sheltered. There's a lot of room for slow grinding catabolic collapse. If society abruptly collapses in the near future it will be self inflicted.

when does the end of the world xxxxing get here?

the lowest amount of CO2 in the atmosphere needed for photosynthesis is 150ppm but because our sun is gradually getting hotter that level will mean the Earth will be too hot for life in approx 500/600 million years time. The oceans will boil away and then the Earth will resemble Venus.

Barring speculative thinking that will be it.

I am 100% certain that the end of the world is 15 years closer than it was 15 years ago! I have No doubt about this, but I am afraid that is all I know.

Rome did not fall overnight....

It fell by announcing that 'The imperial post won't be arriving on Saturday anymore.'
Followed in 20 years that,' Imperial post on Wednesday is hard to do, so we're dropping it for now.'

After 200 years, no more imperial post.... After 400 years, no more empire.

I'd estimate that we're about 50 years into the decline by now.
