Global warming hoax lol, tell it to the Arctic ocean, tell it to every glacier on Earth, tell it on an Antarctic ice shelf, if you can find one not breaking up under you. Brainless deniers, most are still predicting an ice-age due to the solar minimum

Yeah, I wonder what rock he's hiding under today. I listened to some of his pods, Wild! Great doom porn but he was completely off the reservation. Actually, I think he was on a reservation, living in a mud hut lol. Bet he wishes he hadn't thrown in his tenure like he did. It's people like him and Kunstler who give Boomers a bad name.

Po Taa Weeet!

Well done and to that I will add it's the fine feathers that make the bird!

For me, Vonnegut Is hands down the most important and influential and honest American author of the 20th century. I have read all of his books, short stories, and poems. He brought me through some tough times as I felt he was a kindred spirit. He never did quit smoking unfiltered Pal-Mal cigs. He was 85 when he passed away in 2008 and I really miss him.

p.s. I enjoy re-reading his books after the passage of decades. I discovered how time and experience (i.e. hopefully a bit of wisdom if I'm lucky) allowed me to interpret his work from an entirely new perspective.

Well, he'd be looking for a place where people can't think, can't build cars, are mining slaves and whatnot, where he would have easy pickin's among the wimmins? This one could be that rock.

Ayer's rock is an interesting place, I once thought I might visit it someday but alas health and wealth would no longer allow such an expedition.

My mom made it out during her retirement travels, said it was amazingly beautiful. She also visited that countries benign overlords to see the Great Wall, she said it expressed perfectly that one people are capable of great acts and construction, and the others have to rest on the laurels of their natural scenery and resources. Well, she didn't say that exactly, but she implied it. She also visited New Zealand on her Australian trip, and deemed that a real country, of beauty and a people of dignity and high class. :)

I wonder what the mineral content of that rock is? If there was say gold or uranium in the center could you tunnel under and into it and hollow it out leaving the outside undisturbed?
Or is it just a lump of granite best left alone? Yes I understand the aborigines place religious significance on it so it is untouchable just mulling the impossibilities.

Actually seismic surveys seem to indicate it is a half buried roughly spherical course sandstone agglomeration. Eugene Shoemaker was killed in a traffic mishap while traveling to visit Ayer's Rock to determine if the formation had formed in an ancient now eroded meteor crater when Australia had a much wetter climate in the region.

"Goosed by extreme one-day rainfall – a phenomenon getting worse with human-caused climate change – floods tore through towns and rural landscapes across eastern Kentucky late this week. At least 16 deaths had been reported in four Kentucky counties as of midday Friday, according to a statement from Kentucky governor Andy Beshear. In an afternoon press briefing, Beshear added that the total is “going to get a lot higher” as rescuers move into hard-to-access areas. More than 300 people were in Red Cross and independent shelters, and power outages were affecting some 23,000 customers."

As climate change becomes more destructive and the record book needs to be rewritten climate deniers are losing their shit and acting like little kids throwing a temper tantrum at mommy.

UK heatwave: Weather forecasters report unprecedented trolling

Weather forecasters faced unprecedented levels of trolling during this month's extreme heat in the UK, according to leading figures in the industry.

The BBC's team received hundreds of abusive tweets or emails questioning their reports and telling them to "get a grip", as temperatures hit 40C.

BBC meteorologist Matt Taylor said he had never experienced anything like it in nearly 25 years working in weather.

The Royal Meteorological Society condemned the trolling.

Most of the abuse seems to have been prompted as links were made between the heatwave and climate change.

The UK saw record high temperatures on 19 July, with 40C exceeded for the first time. Dozens of locations saw temperatures above the previous UK record of 38.7C and 15 fire services declared a state of emergency because of a surge in blazes.

The Met Office estimated the heatwave had been made 10 times more likely because of climate change.

I find it interesting, like a living experiment, watching how desperate humans react when their ideology/faith starts to fall apart. Climate change might be the single biggest threat to human existence and deniers got it wrong wrong wrong. You can't get any more wrong than that.

Same here. Although in my experience, they don't turn desperate, they glom onto other doomer ideas and change the subject to that, some embarassed at having been involved in the belief system in the first place.

Peak oil was supposed to be the single biggest threat to human existence when the first couple were claimed this century, climate change is where many of them fled to after the previously mentioned embarassment. Like you said, you can't get any more wrong than that, but at least they picked a more reasonable doomer excuse on their second guess.

Interesting how the two swords of Damocles are made of the same stuff.

Human society is at maximum resiliency as nature (that we depend upon) is at minimum resiliency.

I've always wondered whether if humans had limited their populations, would they have achieved as much before one of the swords fell?

I think that is the only question worth asking at this point in our predicament.

That is indeed an interesting way to think about it.

And under the guise of eat, drink and be merry for tomorrow we die, I consider the question moot at this point. I understand individual questions on the philososphy of life to be completely reasonable, and everyone should do it just to seek self understanding. But humans as a species....we've seen it coming before it did and we had time to change, kept doing what we do as it kept getting closer anyway, and now want to act all terribly surprised about it arriving. Live well, prepare the children as best you can, all the while knowing us older farts (as most of us around here seem to range from nearly retired to retired in terms of age) acted as we did anyway and the younger folks can try and skate on the bill we left them, but probably won't.

Yes it's an overseas tourist thing, I only know of a few people that bothered to visit it. It belongs to the aboriginals so you have to pay them to go and look up close. In the center the abos are pretty dogey, drunks for the most part, and there in big numbers.

A second Northern Territory politician has provided police with information on child prostitution in Alice Springs.

Independent MLA Alison Anderson says she spent two weeks walking the streets until 1.00am and noticed a car full of Sudanese men picking up young Indigenous girls.

She claims there was another car with a boot-full of alcohol and drugs driven by an Aboriginal woman, which also picks up young girls and leaves them at the Royal Flying Doctor Service centre.

Ms Anderson says she took down the number plate of one of the cars and gave it to police.

As per usual the media is at least two steps behind me. It seems they have just clued in that we have triggered earth's latest hot house mass extinction (link below). The reporter, like most people who think they know all about earth's history, is still stuck on the 6th mass extinction meme. The information that the mass extinction we are triggering, the one we are living, is the 8th mass extinction (known) not the 6th and anyone with an internet connection can find that info in 5 seconds. My guess is people are in awe of NYT best selling author Elizabeth Kolbert. Don't want to show her up ...waiting for permission from some PTB

Human behaviour is volcanism on steroids.

Study: We Are Emitting Carbon Dioxide 200 Times Faster Than Super-eruptions That Caused Mass Extinctions

"Mass extinctions resulting from supervolcanic activity were found to be due chiefly to enormous, rapid emissions of carbon dioxide, as opposed to the gentle, glacially slow natural carbon cycle; and opposed to other phenomena related with super-eruptions. Sudden, massive release of CO2 and other greenhouse gases seem to have pushed the global environment beyond a tipping point, acidifying the oceans and lifting temperatures to deadly levels."

Fossils reveal a previously unknown mass extinction event

“A new study published in the journal Nature Communications Biology has recently reported on a previously undocumented mass extinction event that occurred after the transition from the Eocene to the Oligocene geological period, approximately 30 million years ago.

The event was caused by dramatic climate change that transformed the swampy lands of Africa and the Arabian Peninsula into icy landscapes, and resulted in the extinction of 63 percent of the Earth’s species.”

Hot House

Newly discovered mass extinction event triggered the dawn of the dinosaurs

“Huge volcanic eruptions 233 million years ago pumped carbon dioxide, methane and water vapour into the atmosphere. This series of violent explosions, on what we now know as the west coast of Canada, led to massive global warming. Our new research has revealed that this was a planet-changing mass extinction event that killed off many of the dominant tetrapods and heralded the dawn of the dinosaurs. ”

Alps resorts see summer ski season melt away

High-altitude Alpine ski resorts have abandoned their summer seasons after record temperatures turned glaciers to slush.

Only one resort remains open after Zermatt, in Switzerland, closed its slopes. The closure of Europe’s biggest glaciers is a blow to professional skiers, who use the high-altitude slopes for summer training.

Tignes, next to Val d’Isère in France, has been open for only 14 days this summer. It closed more than a month ahead of schedule. Hintertux in Austria is now the only summer ski resort open in the Alps.

https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/alps ... -5qzh633fz

OMG now the ski resort owners are in on the climate hoax. By my back of the envelope calculations that brings the number of hoaxters up to 3.9 billion people at a cost of roughly 9 trillion per year. Obviously theses climate hoaxers have no limits on how much money or lives they will ruin to fool that near extinct troop of humans (sub) known as climate change deniers.

FFS even Hollywood would reject that script on the grounds that no audience would be able to suspend their disbelief THAT much.

Years ago I spent a week at Innsbruck, Austria and I skied all the local ski areas with their famous Olympic ski runs. I also skied at the Stubai Gletscher...... I was there in winter, but I was impressed at that time they also had summer skiing on the Stubai Gletcher.

Alas.......the summer skiing is now very very limited at Stubai....they are mainly promoting summer alpine hiking.....ride the gondolas up and hike down.

"Many who survived the floods are finding themselves in destroyed communities. Scores of people have lost their homes. Some remain stranded because of washed-out roads, without access to clean water or electricity, unable to reach loved ones because of lost cell service and unable to receive critical supplies, including medication.

And as those communities struggle to recover, they face another weather threat this week: scorching heat."

"California water prices are at all-time high as a severe drought chokes off supplies to cities and farms across the Golden State.

The price of water on the Nasdaq Veles California Water Index touched $1,144.14 an acre-foot on June 27 — up 56% since the start of the year. The index tracks the average price of water-rights transactions in five markets in the state.

In some pockets of California, water is even more costly -- hovering around $2,000 an acre-foot in the Westlands region...."

All the predictions from climate science decades ago have come to pass. The only significant thing they got wrong was some of the timing - Faster than expected. Whoops that means some of those who benefited the most from a fossil fueled life are going to be around to watch climate change consequences continue to smash the shit out of their country & people with an ever bigger hammer. Eat that deniers.

I don't see the situation as "human society at maximum resiliency" at all. Human society is roughly at minimum resiliency, it's just that it isn't obvious to many people. Nature's moment of minimum resiliency is a little before human society's. That's exactly what you would expect. We are an apex predator in nature.

I've always wondered whether if humans had limited their populations, would they have achieved as much before one of the swords fell?

Looking at the history of China, it looks like societies that try to live within their environmental means achieve less. But now we live in a global society that is inherently limited, so the trick of trying for expansion has stopped working. Even if somebody starts mining the moon, the possible benefits will likely be too limited to make a difference.
