At 11.00 AM the memorial service will start, and at 12.30 AM some of his best friends will carry Bas to his final resting place where we will say our last goodbyes to him.

Warm regards,
Heleen

Received this from Heleen, a friend of Bas. She's referring to Saturday, May 22. Tomorrow.

Maybe someone could do the math and let us know what time this will occur in the US.

Very sad news. On the board, he came across as smart, level-headed and just a really good guy. My respect and sympathy to all his loved ones, and all of the fellow Peakers on the board who will miss him.

Did the math.... for those in the USA, when it's noon in Amsterdam is 3am in Seattle, and 6am in New York.

In honor of Bas, who was never anything but friendly towards me and who I had hoped to meet someday here on Earth.

I spent yesterday with Bas' friends, and some time in his room, it was all very emotional. I'm definitely pleased I came, in addition to my own need to come to terms with his loss, I also feel I'm representing peakoil.com which was an important part of his life. I'll be at his service today.

It was a beautiful sunny day, all his friends and family were there. He was very special to so many people, it was a privilege to know him. I was made to feel extremely welcome by everybody, and while it was a desperately sad occasion the feeling of love for Bas was palpable, it was an honour to be able to say goodbye.

I'm sorry to hear this. What happened?

It's interesting that so many people actually knew each other.

Thanks, sjn, for the news about the service for Bas. It's good to hear that his family and friends were able to gather in memorial and mutual support.

I have been away for 2 weeks and this is just one big shock... I found a lot of meaning in what Bas posted and I will miss his input.

I'm not sure if this is appropriate, but my step-daughter would have been 30 this month. She died seven years ago aged 22, full of hope and not having been ground down by life.

My 15 year old daughter did an homage to her on Youtube http://www.youtube.com/user/MultiAlrac#p/a/u/0/t-PKsoQCBhw

To Bas' family and friends, it takes time to get over the grief. The pain can be unbearable. But it does subside. However, you never forget and nor should you. God bless.

I haven't been on PO.com for a long while, but was directed to this thread from another site.

I realize I am coming to this late, but I just want to say that I liked and admired Bas. He was a calm and level-headed moderator and a pleasure to work with when I too was a moderator. He always struck me as a wise and good man.

My condolences to his friends and loved ones.

I didn't log onto PO.com during 2010, so this is also news to me. What an awful shame, he was one of my favorite posters on this site, so patient and level headed. He'll be missed.

This is news to me as well. I was off the boards at that time giving birth to my second son.

Rest in peace Bas - thank you for your contributions.

Bas was definitely an outstanding person, I remember thinking , "this dude is cool", whenever we would engage, he will be remembered and missed.
