If there was ever a disruption to global supplies, Australia could be one of the first countries affected.
http://www.bbc.com/news/business-44027042
The Australian government has ordered a review of fuel security after experts warned the country only has weeks of petrol, diesel and aviation fuel supplies left in its reserves.

The country's energy minister, Josh Frydenberg, said it was the "prudent and proper thing to do" but should not be interpreted as Australia having a fuel security problem.

The International Energy Agency expects countries to have 90-days worth of fuel in reserve, but Australia has not met those levels since 2012.

If there was ever a disruption to global supplied, Australia could be one of the first countries affected.

So the boys down under would be willing to go to war with those countries want to defend their imports from Indonesia: The top export destinations of Indonesia are China ($16.8B), Japan ($16.1B), Singapore ($11.2B) and India ($10.1B)?

& most of ours comes from the Middle East, via Singapore. We buy almost none directly from Indonesia.

Given the facts that Indonesia is a net importer the same as Australia AND Indonesia has on the order of 10 times the population of Australia? Any invasion would be an interesting, not to mention suicidal tactic.

Gypsy – This harkens back to that one more silly acronym I tossed out long ago. MADOR: Mutually Assured Distribution Of Resources. Similar to the MAD theory back in the Cold War days. No country with the military capability to prevent it will allow another country to disrupt its importation of critical resources. China and the US won’t allow anyone usurping “their oil” when production runs short. But neither would likely care to confront each other in such a situation. IOW those countries weaker financially/militarily will have little choice but to watch their imports shifted to the more powerful.

True Rock, also mostly we citizens of "successful colonies' are largely ignorant how perilously close many less well off countries are to falling to pieces through- sectarianism, tribalism, ethic tensions etc. All it takes is a few years of consistent decline in living standards & what's gone on the Middle East last decade+ could happen most parts of the world.

It's a two way street, we lose the refined product, the rest of the world loses more.

Australia's liquefied natural gas exports were worth A$49 billion in 2019. Australia has become the largest liquefied natural gas exporter in the world

Now that's just energy, then there is minerals, and of course Food,

The Australia natural resources industry has produced revenue records for iron ore, gold and copper in 2020, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics data. The mining sector injected $270 billion into the Australian economy last year, contributing to 62 per cent of the country’s total export
https://www.kitco.com/news/2021-02-08/A ... -2020.html

Our GDP, the measure of how much stuff we all use down here is around 1300 Billion, and we are exporting about 500 billion of stuff. That's 500 Billion excess to our requirements. Australia doesn't need any fancy currency manipulations or massive money printing like the US or Britain, we are loaded and we also export oil.

Australia's crude oil exports draw strength from improving Asian demand outlook
02 Jul 2021

Preliminary data from Australia's Department of the Environment and Energy showed the country exported 9.35 million barrels in April, up 8% year on year. It was the largest monthly export since September 2020, when 10.04 million barrels were shipped

https://www.spglobal.com/platts/en/mark ... nd-outlook

Australia ranks 20th in the world for oil consumption, accounting for about 1.1% of the world's total consumption. So yes, we use a lot more oil than we have on hand now but the rest of the world has a vested interest in providing us what we need because in reality we can be self-sufficient at the drop of a hat. I haven't seen any recent statistics but with NSW and VIC locked down as they are I imagine fuel consumption has plummeted. Now is that a plan to mitigate the peak or what.
