I think what is happening here is that Italy is just barely maybe starting to contain the virus.  New York is in serious and, I would guess, irrecoverable containment failure.  Italy has been locked down since March 9th.  New York is still far from fully locked down.

The data are for New York State, but it’s basically driven by the NYC metro area.

    JuanP, I’m just fine. I have no reason to ever want to go back to the US for anything, especially not for their deathcare program and failing system. The US has one of the worse medical systems in the West, but the most expensive by far. Since I did not abuse my body with smoking, alcohol, drugs, and unhealthy eating, I am in great shape to weather this bullshit virus.

    More people are killed on the highway than by this “virus”. I don’t see them declaring a national emergency about that constant killer. Or any other killer that takes 60 million lives a year around the world.

    I have postponed my US trip this year,to visit family and friends, until next year, and maybe not even then. I communicate quite well with them by phone and internet. They are scattered in at least 3 or 4 states now and I would not see them even if I lived in Police State Amerika.

    The weather is great here. Early summer dry season and the temps are usually in the 80s. I wake up to roosters crowing and go to bed with the sound of frogs croaking. I am retired. Death is the last thing I worry about. It comes to all of us eventually. I hope you enjoy a long, healthy. happy life JuanP.

    Thanks, Mak! Same to you! I stayed here because we have supplies to shelter in place for years at the farm or a friend’s boat (he lives in France). I also could use the sailboat to go to a friend’s farm in the mountains of the Dominican Republic or just sail around for a couple of years. We could also sail to our farm in Uruguay, but I really, really don’t want to do that for a few years yet. Being 50 and extremely healthy, I am not worried about me, my only concern is my wife.
