National Geographic Warns Billions “Face Shortages Of Food And Clean Water” Over Next 30 Years

National Geographic Warns Billions “Face Shortages Of Food And Clean Water” Over Next 30 Years thumbnail

A lot of people out there don’t like when I write these kinds of articles, because they directly contradict the false narrative that humanity has an extremely bright future ahead.  Sadly, the truth is that our planet and everything that lives on it is rapidly deteriorating. And I am not talking about the false environmentalism being pushed by the mainstream media, Greta Thunberg and countless well-funded NGOs.

What I am talking about is the stuff that is happening right in our face.  We are systematically poisoning our planet, thousands upon thousands of species are going extinct, and we are literally running out of all of our most important natural resources.  There isn’t going to be enough of anything in the not too distant future.  In fact, even National Geographic is admitting that up to five billion people could soon be facing “shortages of food and clean water”…

As many as five billion people, particularly in Africa and South Asia, are likely to face shortages of food and clean water in the coming decades as nature declines. Hundreds of millions more could be vulnerable to increased risks of severe coastal storms, according to the first-ever model examining how nature and humans can survive together.

“I hope no one is shocked that billions of people could be impacted by 2050,” says Rebecca Chaplin-Kramer a landscape ecologist at Stanford University. “We know we are dependent on nature for many things,” says Chaplin-Kramer, lead author of the paper “Global Modeling Of Nature’s Contributions To People” published in Science.

The clock is literally ticking for humanity, but meanwhile we spend immense amounts of energy on relatively meaningless political squabbles.

Look, the reality of the matter is that this is going to happen no matter which political party is in control of the White House.  We are in very big trouble, and nobody really has any idea how we can possibly turn things around.

At this point, we are running out of topsoil at a staggering rate.  In fact, we have already lost “nearly half of the most productive soil” within the last 150 years

The world grows 95% of its food in the uppermost layer of soil, making topsoil one of the most important components of our food system. But thanks to conventional farming practices, nearly half of the most productive soil has disappeared in the world in the last 150 years, threatening crop yields and contributing to nutrient pollution, dead zones and erosion. In the US alone, soil on cropland is eroding 10 times faster than it can be replenished.

If we continue to degrade the soil at the rate we are now, the world could run out of topsoil in about 60 years, according to Maria-Helena Semedo of the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization.

So do any of you have a viable plan for how we can stop losing our topsoil?

Because if nobody has a plan, mass starvation is an absolute certainty.  Even if we found a way to save our topsoil, we aren’t going to have anyone to pollinate our crops because all of the insects are dying.  I covered this phenomenon in a previous article entitled “Insect Species Are Rapidly Going Extinct Across The Globe – All Insects Could Be Gone ‘In 100 Years’”.

And without enough insects to eat, the bird population is rapidly declining as well.  This is something that I wrote about in a previous article entitled “North America’s Bird Population Is Collapsing – Nearly 3 Billion Birds Have Been Wiped Out Since 1970”.

Despite all of our advanced technology, we can’t seem to do much of anything to stop the death and decay that we see all over the globe.

Even the human race is steadily deteriorating.  Scientists tell us that humans are now smaller, shorter, weaker and dumber than our ancestors were thousands of years ago.  Today, our genes contain tens of thousands of mistakes (mutations), and those mistakes are passed on to the next generation.  And each new generation adds additional mistakes (mutations) to the gene pool, and so over time the number of mutations being passed on continues to grow.  In virtually every case those mutations are harmful, and we have absolutely no way to stop this systematic decay of the human genome.

Literally, our planet and everything in it is falling apart.

Here in the western world, things may seem okay for the moment because our debt-fueled lifestyles and our advanced technology allow us to live fairly comfortable lives.

But things are already starting to change, and global events are accelerating at a pace that is very alarming.  As the fabric of our society unravels, it is going to be imperative to have others that you can lean on for support.

Unfortunately, making friends is not something that most of us are very good at doing.  In fact, one recent study discovered that the average American adult “hasn’t made a new friend in the last five years”

Spending time in the company of good friends regularly has been shown to have a positive impact on health. But for many Americans, socializing in adulthood gets harder with age. A recent survey reveals that 45% of adults admit they find it hard to make new friends. In fact, the average adult hasn’t made a new friend in the last five years, according to the survey.

In this day and age, our screens have become our friends.  We spend countless hours with our televisions, our phones and our computers.  Meanwhile, many of us don’t have any idea how the people living right next door are doing.

One of the reasons why I write so many articles is because that is how I can reach the most people.

If the most effective way of waking people up was traveling the country and holding meetings, I would do it.

But these days it is exceedingly difficult to get people to leave their homes and go to a meeting.  But once I publish this article on the Internet, it will be seen by enough people to easily fill a sports stadium.

The Internet is where the battle for hearts and minds is being won or lost, and we need to do all that we can to wake more people up.

Because the clock is ticking for humanity, and the destiny of billions hangs in the balance.

    “The Ultimate Heresy: Technology Can’t Fix What’s Broken”
    https://tinyurl.com/y5tdoght zero hedge

    “The ultimate heresy in today’s world isn’t religious or political: it’s refusing to believe that technology can not only solve all our problems, it will do so painlessly and without any sacrifice. Anyone who dares to question this orthodoxy is instantly declared an anti-progress (gasp!) Luddite, i.e. a heretic in league with the Devil…Even worse, if that’s possible, is declaring that technology is making our lives worse rather than better. There’s an entire industry devoted to cherry-picking data to support the One True Faith of Technology…The belief in the ultimate goodness and inevitability of technological advances is often presented as a binary choice: one either believes that technology will eventually solve every human problem, or one is anti-technology and anti-progress. Suggesting there are limits on technology is thus heretical: for believers, there are no limits. Let’s set aside the false binary choice and ask: are there intrinsic limits to technology, and if so, are we approaching any of these limits…Technology cannot repeal the laws of thermodynamics. Taking a pencil and extending the declining cost of solar panels to zero doesn’t negate the physical costs of mining and smelting the ore, shipping the metal to a factory, fabricating the photovoltaic cells, assembling and testing the panels, transporting them to the installation site on vehicles that are expensive to manufacture and maintain, installing the panels, wiring them to inverters and other equipment, testing the system onsite, and returning to perform maintenance and possibly repairs. Since the expected life of the installed panels is 20 to 25 years, the entire expense must be repeated, plus the additional expense of removing and recycling the worn out panels…Even if robots perform all the work, robots are themselves resource- and energy-intensive. Robots are less like a computer chip (with declining marginal costs), and more like a car, an immensely complex and costly assembly of intrinsically resource-intensive components, electronics, computer chips and millions of lines of software coding…Consider the hundreds of components in a so-called smart home designed to save energy and offer more convenience by networking sensors, cameras, appliances, locksets, servers, controllers, Wi-Fi chips and software…How long will these components last? How long before they must be replaced to function with a new software system? How functional will the system be if even one controller fails? Given the extraordinary expense of installing and maintain this complex system and the marginal returns in convenience and security, how is this not another system destined for the landfill…Technology can’t fix what’s broken, because what’s broken is our entire system.”

  32. REAL Green on Wed, 16th Oct 2019 6:27 am

    REAL Green treats technology different than the modern cult of technology. First REAL Green takes the position of behavior first. REAL Green behavior is acceptance of failure in a macro situation of a collapse process. Yes, this means dooming and prepping but very much different than the nutter variety that is a fringe element in society. For those who find the world collapse disagreeable than substitute decline process. We do not know the pace and the degree of the process fully but most honest science is telling us we are in a broad-based decline. This is planetary, social, with depletion, and diminishing returns to efficiency. REAL Green is a behavior basic of acceptance of failure. The failure is with the current narrative of market-based capitalism in a globalized world of social principals of modern humans engage in development. Growth is central to this broad narrative of failure.

    REAL Green embraces degrowth and this embrace says wisdom found in this basic of behavior dictates that the best technology must be determined not by performance related to growth and efficiency but instead mitigation and adaptation to a world driven by the degrowth of a collapse process. REAL Green cherry picks the best technologies to be combined in hybridization of earlier lifestyles with the best knowledge, technics, and hardware to enhance the older ways that were more sustainable and resilient. Man has never been particularly sustainable and resilient. Man has always been driven to growth by exploitation and adaptation of technologies to increase comfort and power. REAL Green seeks to break this innate human tendency with a wisdom that acknowledge this failed human impulse to growth and gain power is now over. REAL Green says our footprint is now the problem and a paradigm shift to decline is planetary. Earlier lifestyles can be adopted again in a hybrid way with the best of the accumulated knowledge to make the collapse process less painful and destructive. This is about how best to negotiate a gradient of decline.

    If humans are not careful a cascading decline with massive loss of accumulated best practices and effective equipment will be lost quickly. Important networks and control system could be lost contributing to this cascade. REAL Green says the beginning is with the wisdom of cherry picking the best and discarding the rest. This means the current bold science of going to space for any reason and reaching inside the atom needs to be stopped immediately. Instead we need to devote all efforts to sustainability and resilience of technology in regards to a collapse process. This means draconian changes to social systems, accepted social conventions, and economics. This then will adapt the cult of Tech to the wisdom of the best tech for the ride down to a new and less complex world.

    REAL Green is not delusional that these kinds of REAL Green changes will bring the system down just as the lack of control of our growth footprint. REAL Green say this strategy is proactive and honest where the current system is reactive and destructively making the situation worse. REAL Green says we have a powerful economic engine that is still intact lets harness it to produce output that contributes to mitigation and adaptation to collapse. This needs to start now. It could be started by using socialistic policy as a gate keeper to capitalism. It requires a two-tier social and economic system of people going back to the land in simplicity of seasonality, intermittency, and living within planetary cycles of old. This means reduced travel, animal power, and permaculture. This would be enhanced by modern tech, complex systems, and accumulated knowledge. Even though these modern tools are used they are still being left. These back to the land people would be protected with health, education, and security in robust safety nets. Those with the skills remaining in the modern would husband these back to the land people because those remaining in the modern would understand they will need a refuge when collapse makes the modern untenable. Triage would be central to this process because consumerism, modern travel and leisure, and wasteful education and science would need to be curtailed in a draconian way but measured way. The pace and degree of change would have to be modulated to avoid slipping into a cascading collapse quicker. This is about terminal illness maintenance not a transcendence from failure. Mottos like failure is not an option would be exposed for what they are and that is a failure. Education and science would change drastically to focus on application of the best of the modern being applied to the earlier ways of simplicity.

  33. REAL Green on Wed, 16th Oct 2019 6:28 am

    REAL Green is honest and admits failure as the prerequisite to REAL Green action. This means the above doctrine of macro systematic changes is not realistic. It is useful as a templet for what could work with different behavior. It is clear the world is not up to the task of downsizing growth and the impulse to comfort and power. Nations are in competition to be the best they can be and even be hegemonic. Huge amounts are needlessly spent of military and economic efforts to these ends. The develop world is talking with the developing world about sustainable development which is just a mask for the growth impulse that is destroying the planet. There is no sustainable development. It is clear climate science efforts to change this trajectory are flawed and a lie. Renewable energy that will be vital to a decline process is seen instead as “salvic” by FAKE Green extremist liberals. There world view as the transition for the future to more complexity and greater development is also a lie. The current world system acknowledged we must cooperate to make all this work and it is this cooperation that is also killing us because it cements the growth impulse. No side is going to unilaterally degrowth and it is degrowth that is needed. It is the control of technology that is needed. It is the return of huge amounts of the population back to simplicity both voluntarily and forced. This cannot be done in competitive cooperation with technology and growth central to the narrative.

    REAL Green acknowledges this but says it can be done locally and with small groups. It begins with the individual. Remember the pilgrims? REAL Green is about crossing an ocean like the pilgrims did. This is a relative process of being in a sense parasitic to the status quo of growth to leave it. Take as much of the best of what is out there and apply to your life and local. Do this relatively so you do not upset the delicate balance of your status quo life of significant others and career. It almost has to be done as a hobby of a life passion camouflage from your real intent. Very few can go True Green in harmony with the planet and even REAL Green that is a personal effort at degrowth and preparation for collapse is limited to a few. Those that can should do it because it is the true way of life that embraces the reality of planetary and human decline. This means the elements that make humans great will be exhibited in how you live. The planet will assist you because this is a planetary reality.

    REAL Green takes acceptance of failure and applies this to the existential crisis of a collapse process. For those who can go REAL Green it is about monasteries that will provide he seeds of change for a collapsing world. Monasteries are for those who can go to higher degrees but anyone can embrace the basics. REAL Green does not expect to survive necessarily. REAL green seeks to orientate for better chance of survival. REAL Green seeks to have something for the reboot that is a level society will decline to where leveling off of decline is possible. We may go quickly into extinction and REAL Green accepts this. These best practices and equipment will then be used to rebuild and or continue to manage decline. The collapse process is likely a stair step process so REAL Green is about stepping down in an organized and flexible retreat. There are lifestyles that must end and places that are inhabited that must be left. REAL Green will attempt to leave these. REAL Green acknowledges a complete transcendence is not possible and since this is an individual effort many will be part of these lifestyle that will end and places that depopulated. REAL Green will have strategies for this.

    REAL Green is an add on to your higher power, skill set, and location. This means there are a thousand different REAL Green templets. All REAL Green templates start with behavior of decline and localism. REAL Green rejects FAKE Green of the techno cult and also the status quo of the market-based capitalist drenched in fossil fuels. PEAK Oil is part of this REAL Green explanation but so is the extinction rebellion but adapted to acknowledges failure with no hope of success of the current human narrative of growth and advancement. Yet, REAL Green understands market-based capitalism must be harnessed to achieve better results. This might sound NOT Green but remember REAL Green is parasitic to the unstoppable status quo of techno-modernism. So, you harness its late stage not destroy the goose that lays the golden egg.

    REAL Green accepts the carbon trap and path dependency and understands this means pain suffering and even death. This is why REAL Green often talks about lifeboats and hospices. REAL Green yields to higher forces by taking the local road where it is far easier to remain under the radar screen of destructive trends and human forces of exploitation. REAL Green accepts this may not get very far but as the only hope it goes forth with a brave face and determination in the name of significant others and the planetary web of life.

  34. The Board’s Prayer on Wed, 16th Oct 2019 7:29 am

    Please God grant REAL Green the serenity to accept the things that REAL Green cannot change;
    The courage to change the things REAL Green can;
    And the wisdom to know the difference.

    Living one day at a time; Enjoying one moment at a time;
    Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
    Taking, as He did, this sinful world as it is, not as REAL Green would have it;
    Trusting that He will make all things right If REAL Green surrenders to His will;
    So that REAL Green may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with Him forever and ever in the next.

    Amen

    the pm knows well the dup wont accept leaving the uk. he knows thats why May agreed to the backstop, ie to keep the uk in. therefore its illogical to think that he really believes that theres any hope of the dup agreeing to remain in the customs union. even if they agree in principle Stormont will be shut down forever. the erg will vote against any deal which does not confirm uk control over its own laws so they might agree without much arm twisting. my guess is that the tories are looking for rebel labour and SNP voters to help. even with a deal its not likely that the deal will survive Bercow. Que the coup.

    Baghdadi is back!

    https://www.spiegel.de/politik/ausland/islamischer-staat-abu-bakr-al-baghdadi-plant-seine-rueckkehr-a-1291589.html

    Foreign Policy claims that Turkey has released IS-jihadists.

    For me that is no surprise, IS always had a closet-alliance with Turkey and was supplied from Turkey. What is new is that FP is spilling the beans about that cooperation.

    That alliance has been revived. IS is the icebreaker of the Ottoman Empire 2.0.

    Expect Baghdadi to be rewarded in a couple of years time with a post in the Turkeish government, like minister for women’s affairs.lol

    It remains to be seen who will have the nerve to be responsible for no-deal.

    Will be in central London coming weekend and will certainly go to Westminster. I can be easily recognized. The guy in the middle, that’s me:

    “How Turkey’s Invasion of Syria Backfired on Erdogan”
    https://tinyurl.com/y3q6q2v7 counterpunch

    “Turkey’s Syrian venture is rapidly turning sour from President Erdogan’s point of view. The Turkish advance into northeast Syria is moving slowly, but Turkey’s military options are becoming increasingly limited as the Syrian Army, backed by Russia, moves into Kurdish-held cities and towns that might have been targeted by Turkish forces. It is unlikely that Mr Erdogan will risk taking on Syrian government troops, even if they are thin on the ground, if this involves quarrelling with Russia. In the seven days since he launched Operation Peace Spring, Turkey has become more diplomatically isolated than Ankara might have envisaged when President Trump appeared to greenlight its attack. A week later after that implicit okay of Turkey’s offensive, Mr Trump is imposing economic sanctions on Ankara after a wild zig-zag in US policy – bizarre even by Trumpian standards. Almost the entire world is condemning the Turkish invasion and, having achieved the objective of eliminating the Kurdish statelet of Rojava, Turkey will have great difficulty in making any more gains. “Now that the Kurds and Damascus have come to an agreement, I do not think that Ankara will dare to open a new front against Assad forces,” writes the highly informed Turkish military commentator Metin Gurcan. Even token numbers of Syrian troops in cities like Manbij and Kobani close to the Euphrates, and Qamishli and Hasakah close to the Iraqi border, will leave Turkish soldiers and allied Arab militiamen confined to a rectangle of territory between the towns of Ras al-Ayn and Tal-Abyad, possibly extending 20 miles south to the M4 highway – which is the strategic spine of Rojava. The Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) have avoided costly engagements, but could become more of a threat if backed by Syrian army artillery and tanks…In terms of domestic Turkish public opinion, the emphasis is still on Turkish military success, but, from now on, this will bring no political benefits to Mr Erdogan. He must try to operate without allies and is being squeezed by the US and Russia. Turkish troops and their Arab allies are still pushing forward, but Turkey has lost the diplomatic and propaganda wars. In the end, it will have no option but to declare a famous victory and retreat.”

    Agreement in place between EU and UK gov, again:

    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7578553/Boris-Johnson-scrambles-win-DUP-Tory-hardliner-Spartans-Brexit-deal.html

    “Boris Johnson heads to crucial Brussels summit TODAY: Last-ditch talks go down to the wire after DUP scuppered Brexit draft – but PM and EU remain confident agreement CAN be ‘finalised’ within hours as even hardliners hail ‘great progress’”

    It is just that madhouse Westminster has a hobby of voting down any proposal coming from Europe.

    If it fails, Foster will get the blame. I would be surprised if she has the nerve to do so. If Westminster votes it down again, the EU will probably pull the plug and we have a real geopolitical split at hand and likely mutual animosity.

    Whatever. Anything that breaks the status quo is good. US prestige is completely down the drain anyway and Europe can play the Eurasian card and escape from Anglo-Zionist orbit and begin to “protect European way of life” from globalist idiocy.

    Cloggie is not wrong that Labour is now the Islamic party of the UK. Muslims and LGBTQP… and cold war remnant marxists (like Corbyn) have joined up and one thing they have in common (along with the Irish Republic) is that they oppose Israel and only support Palestinians.
