Face reality – the world’s population is growing

In 1949 the doctor who delivered me held me up by my heels and gave me a hard whack on the butt.

When I entered the world, I shared the planet with 2.4 billion people. Today, that number has swelled to 7.6 billion. In my lifetime, the human population has increased over three times.

Population increase has been relatively slow until recently.

Twelve thousand years ago, there were 1 million people. That number reached 1.0 billion people two hundred years ago. Current population projections place the human population at 9.8 billion in 2050; 11.2 billion in 2100.

This rising sea of humanity is putting a strain on the earth’s ability to provide the resources needed for everyday life. Today, we are using resources 44 percent faster than what the earth is able to replenish. In other words, it takes earth just under 18 months to replace the resources mankind uses in one year. By 2030, we will need the resource production of two earths to meet mankind’s needs. The rich countries use the earth’s resources at 10 times the rate as poorer countries.

Tribalism, wealth inequality, mass refugee migration, political dysfunction, and human suffering are linked to a growing population on a planet with limited and finite resources.

I remain optimistic that we can address the problems that are facing humanity. First, we must admit the problem exists. Only then will be able to take the bold step of coming together to find solutions.

No sht Sherlock, thats what you get for screwing around, lots of babies.
Hard to believe, back in 1900 there were @ two billion, in 1960 @3 billion and today 7.6 billion. Houston, think we have overshoot.
I am so amused most have no idea of this,
especially the female sex. We are programmed to reproduce and suffer the consequences.

The overpopulation is a specific type of
people…. a bunch of dumb fat
pigs in spandex pants in wheelchairs
at Wal-Mart spending their snap cards,
and throwing their hefty bags of garbage
    into the nearest river.

too bad the population overshoot isnt a bunch
of Albert Einstein’s and Carl Sagan’s. That
    would be a wonderful world.

It is unclear to me how population can keep rising and with rising affluence. The system must have rising affluence and rising population was part of that rising affluence. Do you see the trap? This is part of the reason I feel cornucopians are wrong. Population is the elephant in the room that makes optimism likely null and void. If you respect the math and physics one can see this.

This motherfucker has been around for 20 years longer than I’ve been around and he still thinks there is hope. Just like Micromind still believes all that BS propaganda about the USA being good. For every refugee the USA takes in it creates dozens. For every penny they spend “helping” foreigners they spend many dollars destroying other countries. The Imaginary Neuron is an exceptionally stupid and ignorant, brainwashed, functionally illiterate retard and he lacks the intelligence and modesty necessary to understand his true nature. Micromind is nothing more and nothing less than a typical American. A loud, obnoxious, ignorant, arrogant bully with very bad manners. The people of this world are sick and tired of assholes like him. YANKEES GO HOME!

I was on the Boston waterfront when a large United States vessel came to port for shore leave. Kid you not a person made a sign that read…”YANKEE GO HOME”
PS there is still a native American Indian tribe active in the region

I wonder what this idiot is basing his optimism on? Because anybody who really looks will not see much reasons for said optimism

The Petri dish is being emptied of nutrients at an ever increasing rate, the essence of overshoot. There is nothing to be done but prepare and brace for impact. And minimind, your racism is showing beneath that sheet you’re wearing. Trump would be proud..

The worlds poorest people are having the most children. They have not figured out the connection between their poverty and family size. Endless population growth is not sustainable. If you can not provide for yourself you can not provide for a child.
