Robert Rapier: Carbon Trading & Thorium Reactors

In this week’s episode of R-Squared Energy TV, I answer two viewer questions. The first is on California’s upcoming carbon trading markets, which includes a discussion on resource shuffling. The second question is on the potential of thorium nuclear reactors.

Rather than explaining what ‘carbon trading is’, his time would be better spent explaining that the the so-called carbon market in Europe is a total failure, and an acknowledged one at that. None of these ‘carbon markets ‘work’ as Mr Rapier seems to claim here. They work , in the sense that the ponzi-fraud markets make a killing shuffling paper, and big polluters have managed to dodge ANY reductions in actual pollution. I know this, how does RR insist carbon markets ‘work’ when its abundantly clear they do not even remotely work. They wont work in Calif, because they dont work ANYWHERE…

At least he waffles on thorium. Again, if hed just come out and say, expensive and unproven and un-deployed tech-no-fixes are likely to either A) disappoint or B) never materialize, he could cut that last 3 mins of waffling down to 30 seconds easily

I’ve always felt that carbon trading was more about transfer of wealth from rich western countries to poor and/or over populated ones(i.e. China). It’s not a system that stops climate change but attempt to stop exploding global population. It’s the big elephant in the room at the U.N. that no one is willing to public address. Carbon swapping is designed to curb population growth, but was sold as a means to slow climate change. It can be argued that stopping population growth indirectly slows climate change, but I think global population is on the minds of the people at the U.N.

Yes, Thorium reactor is becoming a talking point. It does not give radio active waste.

Just use the 4th Gen nuclear technology to use Thorium as a fuel, we have a winning technology which can provide clean unlimited energy which will also be aided by Solar and Wind.

Its time to get rid of Oil and Coal. Otherwise, we may just end up using dirty heavy oil and cheap coal.
