Just for the new folks... mostly.

First post this thread.

Watch this video...

If you can't quiet grasp why some folks around here are pretty worried, this video should clear up any doubts.

I've downloaded the .rm file (110mb) but it won't play, what am I doing wrong? How can I make this work without resorting to the bittorrent type stuff you guys were talking about?

I read parts of the NPG report and it made me physically ill, I really want to see the video.

Hi there friend, download realplayer alternative. It is very good, small and will play virtually all media.

Hmm there was a version a while back of this where he was addressing a group of college students in a classroom. Anyone know where I can find that? Also I believe that it was mpeg format or maybe avi/windows.

Thank you very much Dukat. It works fine now. Now I have to figure out how to get my wife to sit through a 60 minute lecture.

Great video.

As a communications minor I really appreciate this guys skills in public speaking, it makes ALL the difference.

His delivery, organization, tranistion, and exemplification are really good.

Long story short, he's a real OG. I recently gave a speech on PO in one of my comm classes that I thought was pretty good, the prof came up to me and wanted to discuss after class etc. But really, nothing on this guy.

I also LOVE the way he used the exponential function and very basic calculus to illustrate this problem. I already knew it, but i'd never seen someone use it as a topical approach to a speech on PO. beutifal. Fact is this is a mathematical problem and i'd estimate less than 5% of the US population retains the simple math skills required to comphrehend it.

This guy reteaches them in an hour in a very interesting/granfatherly way. people might actually sit through this and learn something!

I'm sending this to my close family and friends. He manages to do in a credible, unavoidable, and interesting way what i have been putting of doing. It seems like so many adults these days are so childish in their unwillingness to comphrehend anything new.

IE trying to get people to understand the core issue at hand here.

taking the red pill if you will.

I sent it to my family members too, and apparently none of them ever watched it. Several have the math skills too. I prefaced it as "The clearest presentation I've yet seen about how the human race is in big trouble." Oh well.

Same as that. :( :x

People don't want to understand. They know but choose to ignore.

Anyone have a link for Bartletts other one... Where he is addressing a small class rather than a lecture hall? I think it was better...

There is alot of pages to read so i skipped it. Im gonna give my share after watching the lecture. I think it was very informative and easy to understand but giving it to other people that don't know about the issues is not a good idea. I dont think they would watch a one hour long lecture because it would be boring for them. I think you need something a little more fast pace and interesting but still takes the issues very seriously to get a person to open up.

Seen it before, those are exactly the kinds of questions I was asking myself in class ten years ago, the sad truth is everyone gets used to hearing "At current rates of usage..." lines from an age before they can do useful arithmetic and never do their own working.

A great presentation. The main lesson is that we humans will need to do what we have always done best. ADAPT OR DIE.
