Kunstler: The Great Nausea

Public Policy

Historians of the future, roasting rat kabobs over their campfires will look back at the year 2016 and marvel at the death throes of the zombie republic that died eating its own brains. This grotesque Deep State lumbers from one misadventure of governance to the next consuming its prospects for a plausible future in a fugue of autophagy, inducing the great nausea that now settles over the land.

President Trump — really? We would be lucky of it only resulted in a revolt of the generals, and there goes 200-plus years of institutional heritage. Yet it cannot be denied that the Deep State needs to be kicked to the curb, stomped, water-boarded, and hung out to dry. The sad part is that the job might have been done by men of character, but incredibly the long-vaunted baby boomer generation did not manage to produce any, nor the so-called Gen-X now coming into its own power. And if such hypothetical figures do exist, why are they hiding in the thickets of public life?

Well, there is Bernie, after all. Credit must be given to this lone crusader for at least opposing the avatar of the Deep State, she whose “turn” must not be denied in the rotating management of rackets-and-grift that our politics have sunk to. He thrashed her roundly in the three primary contests over the weekend — so badly in the vote count that she may be suffering an existential hangover as I write. The fabled Democratic Party super-delegates may also be going through a dark night of the soul as they study the intractable anti-charisma of Hillary. Much as I admire Bernie’s chutzpah, his particular Old Left theories of wealth redistribution do not convince me — though the management of our dwindling capital surely lies at the heart of our problems. His nomination would go down in the Ripley’s Believe-It-Or-Not annals of the world’s greatest improbabilities.

Otherwise, the latest meme spreading across the web wires is how deeply the voters divide by sex: men flocking around Trump (or Machine Gun Ted Cruz), and the ladies standing at each mighty column of Hillary’s azure pant-suit. Yes, a national war of the sexes. Just what we need with all our shit falling apart. This sorry diversion results not from the triumph of feminism, as widely believed, but actually from the failure of American manhood. Proof of that, of course, is the ascendance of Trump, this punch-line of a political leader with all the gravitas of a hood ornament. History repeats itself, first as tragedy, second as farce — thank you, Karl Marx, O peevish mischief-maker squirming upon your fabled boils!

Finally, what will take the Deep State down is not some lance-wielding armored savior on a white horse but the awful undertow of financial implosion that awaits as the seasons of 2016 turn. When faith in our money and the instruments represented in it goes, look out below. There are so many rifts in the international banking system that the vista begins to look like the spring ice break-up on the Lake of Nations. When the grifters can’t cash their checks — or move their pixels into the accounts receivable column — they will be immobilized. Of course, if that happens, so will everything else, including your ability to buy anymore frozen pizzas.

Trump, Cruz, Hillary, and Bernie are signs that this poor paralyzed country needs to go through a convulsion to flush out all the toxic idiocy of this historical moment. Trigger warning: it may be the messiest revolution in history when it finally comes, there is so much dross to clear out of the system. Trump and Hillary are like two giant fistulas obstructing the national bowel. Of course, a lot of sentient Americans do not want their nation dying on the toilet like Elvis. The indignity of it! In the name of the founding fathers, please, someone, fetch the enema bag.

Events still lie hidden like bear traps on the path to “Decision 2016” as they like to say on the cable networks. Somewhere in London, Singapore, Shanghai, or New York, a 25-year-old coked-out Forex trader is going to tap the untoward keystroke that brings down a derivatives avalanche… or two brothers of Allah in some Berlin row-house will go forth one bright morning in vests of Semtex… and finally enough will be enough.

As always Kunstler has a way with words. What can you say he is right we are a country in free fall and not because of its people as some would decry. But because of this leadership which is actually the international financial elite who captured this country some 100 years ago. Again, we have no more to worry than any other place in the world. Nobody anywhere is safe from the avalanche soon to come down upon this planet.

    Dear James,

The oil age is ending: The Deep State, and its miscarried Siamese Twin, the MIC, is dying with it. The thrashings going on are their death throes. Neither Hillary, Bernie, or Donald have enough armor to combat these monsters. The Sword of Damascus that will slay these beasts is carried by none other than Her Majesty; Mother Nature! She does come by from time to time to do a little House cleaning.

I don’t quite see how the oil age is ending when the world is in an oil glut and both oil consumption and oil production continue to slowly rise. If these are signs of the oil age ending, then what do you imagine would signal the oil age NOT ending?

No—-What appears to be ending is the credibility of the US establishment. The democratic party is ignoring its own voters with undemocratic super delegates throwing the D nomination to the venal Hillary, while the Republican Party is being shouted down by its own voters, who insist the repugnant Trump should be the nominee. Meanwhile Obama continues to play golf and dance the Tango and boast about how great everything is going while Islamist terrorists blow up innocent Belgians and commit genocide in Syria and Iraq.

In 2016 its the US and EU establishments that are failing—not the oil supply.

    Cheers!

Son of a gun Jim, I sure wouldn’t want your gig. You have to write an obituary for an entity that isn’t dead yet, but is obviously ill, each and every week and the sucker just doesn’t die.

I do love your writing. How about a story where aliens land that identify sources of fungible energy and vaporize everyone in the way in order to obtain them. Finding America running on E, they pass them over, leaving pop tart eating, corpulent suburbanites to burn Ikea particle board crap in McMansion
fireplaces and gather at night for pagan ceremonial dances with gas pumps stacked to fashion totem poles in the center of the cul-de-sacs. I.E. a feel good story when TSHTF and we can’t bullshit each other and live a fictitious existence on Facebook.

This is like visiting a dying old geezer in a nursing home. We know the system is dead. The herd senses it. The zeitgeist is undeniable. Still the decrepit, corrupt corpse will not die. It is getting to the point that we need to close the door, walk away and plant a garden.

As a former academic, I feel a twinge of sadness this time of year. In another month, another crop of college grads will be hitting the anemic U.S. job market. Also, the young will be getting the bill for past binges. Bye bye Twitter, farewell to Facebook, watch out for cannibals. That would be my commencement address.

“short: Probably it’s the Sword of Damocles we should beware of. Although maybe ISIS is planning beheadings in Damascus?”

What the reference was to was Damascus Steel; a blade supposedly so sharp that a hair falling across it would be cut in half. But your metaphor would work equally as well. Thanks.

The sad reality is that next January America WILL swear in a President Im sure nobody really wants. Either they will get the another slick willy in drag looking to solve eveyones problems except Americas, a yankee Merkel who will tear down the borders. Or America will get a man, voted for by men, who havent heard a man talking like a man on tv in their generation.

“I don’t quite see how the oil age is ending when the world is in an oil glut and both oil consumption and oil production continue to slowly rise.”

For those who have a tough time with the multiplication tables, the simple answer is that the industry has seen its revenue stream decline by over $5 trillion per year in the last 22 months. Or, more simply yet, it is going broke real, real fast! The US petroleum industry lost more money last year than it made in the previous eight.

The oil “glut” is very rapidly destroying the industry, and since the “glut” will continue for a long, long time the industry won’t!

    Cheers??

  11. onlooker on Mon, 28th Mar 2016 4:50 pm

Yeah Plant, maybe I can translate. The benefits of Oil are now being outweighed by the costs. This in turn means their is less net energy to power society which slows economic growth which in turn dries the income stream for Oil companies (Sound familiar). Said Oil companies now find it more difficult thus to finance their activities which curtails oil supplies which depresses the economy some more. rinse and repeat. Oh did I mention that all the while this is happening overall depletion is working relentlessly in the background. Your so called glut is not very beneficial under closer scrutiny is it?

  12. marmico on Mon, 28th Mar 2016 5:03 pm

the industry has seen its revenue stream decline by over $5 trillion per year in the last 22 months

    What a crock of shit.

If oil had remained at $100 barrel for 22 months the revenue equation would be:

    80 million barrels per day x 660 days x $100 per barrel = $5.3 trillion.

Only a multiplication table fuctard would assert that the oil industry has received zero revenues per month in the last 22 months.

  13. onlooker on Mon, 28th Mar 2016 5:14 pm

Who is the fucktard. Check out the oil price since June of 2014 on this linked chart. It goes precipitously down from that point on and has stayed down in about the 50 dollars PB or less in the last year. So why do you use a hypothetical $100 when that is not the case. Your dreaming Marmico.

Really Marm, check your math at 40 dollars a barrel.

  15. peakyeast on Mon, 28th Mar 2016 6:10 pm

I think what marmico is pointing out is that the difference in revenue btw. 40 and 100$ oil is less than 5 trillion and probably around 3 trillion. Just a guess.

  16. Dooma on Mon, 28th Mar 2016 6:14 pm

Not a single mention of the fact that the voters of America voted in good old Ronnie Ray-gun??

If you voted that primate-loving sociopath in, Trump will have no problem!

Your sounding hawkish there Plant along with wanting the US to play a much bigger role in policing the world.

    short

“The oil “glut” is very rapidly destroying the industry, and since the “glut” will continue for a long, long time the industry won’t”!

In a couple years when prices spike there will be plenty of money to ramp back up.

I have come to the conclusion that a few on here are demented or on some really heavy drugs. Logic or rational thinking is impossible for them. Perhaps it is their deep investment in the oily business or some big stock holding that bends their thinking? Or plain denial?
They are on my “Ignore List”.

JHK writes some interesting and entertaining articles. I enjoy reading them. This one describes the election circus very well.

We have a man at age 69, who has done most everything he wanted to do and is now going for the Presidential Oscar Award for the best actor in government. Smart enough to see the right buttons to push and brave enough to push them, at age 69, he has little to lose if the Deep State assassinates him. He will make the history books any way it goes. If there are any new history books printed, that is.

Billary is just another female who wants to be a male and wants to prove females are equal to men while she out balls men who really have them. Her election leads directly to WW3 and the end of the Us. Her Siamese twin, the MIC, will kill to make her president. That is, if she is no indited first.

The other runner ups have no chance unless both of the front runners are killed. A pleasant thought but not likely. Meanwhile, the world watches in amazement as the Empire reveals its corrupt underbelly for all to see.

    Pass the popcorn.

  21. marmico on Mon, 28th Mar 2016 10:20 pm

Ok fucktards get a grip. Tight oil is profitable at $40, Wall Street has deep pockets and the as Obama once said ‘never bet against America’ which means the Fed will underwrite Wall Street until oil prices climb again so the smart guys running the show can get rich again just like they deserve. You fucktards can sit here jerking off to Doomer porn all you want. I know how fucking math works.

“Today law as a shield of the people has been lost. The loss was gradual over time and culminated in the George W. Bush and Obama regime assaults on habeas corpus and due process. Historically, a government that can, without due process, throw a citizen into a dungeon or summarily execute him is considered to be a tyranny, not a democracy. By any historical definition, the United States today is a tyranny.”

    http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2016-03-27/does-united-states-still-exist

    And the beat goes on…

  23. makati1 on Mon, 28th Mar 2016 10:54 pm

Marm, math works if you input the right numbers. There are no ‘right numbers’ available in the petroleum world today. Everyone is trying to portray a fantasy world of BAU, never to end. Facts would destroy that world overnight. Dream on.

Megalomaniacal murderers run the U.S.  Quoth JFK:  “Yet it cannot be denied that the Deep State needs to be kicked to the curb, stomped, water-boarded, and hung out to dry.

One does not need to be a disciple of Kunstler in order to see that the current Republicrat Establishment is rotten to the core.  With its millions of military-industrial and other parasites, the present governmental façade is a grotesque parody of a system pretending to be “ruled by the people.”  The lower depths of the proles have gotten so bad that Richmond, CA is now paying suspected would-be Negro murderers not to murder.  Miami, Toledo, Baltimore, Washington D.C. and over a dozen other cities are studying the payoff system in the hopes of imitating it.  (After all, shipping them back to their ancestral homeland would be un-Christian.  And it might offend the chimpanzoid in the White House.)

This malignant, cash-paying absurdity, of course, is totally apart from the diluvial inundation of mud “refugees” from World 3.  It is also apart from the slow collapse of the social welfare system, the medical system, the prison system, the educational sytem, ….  Yet the string-pullers behind the political marionettes tell us that everything is getting better;  just keep electing their front candidates, o sheeple.

Repeatedly, ad nauseam, the nation is being told through the hypnosis-box that Trump does not speak ”presidentially“ and has no “presidential” (i.e., ventriloquitory) abilities.  The only problem is that for decades we have been presented with politicoes speaking in resoundingly presidential tones, saying everything their paymasters tell them to say, and then working to destroy the civilization biologically as soon as they have been elected.  The elites’ current perfect puppet, of course, is Hotflash Clitory, obedient darling of the Deep State.  The Establishment behind her (and behind ever-so-presidential RINO Repubs like Ted Cruz and John Kasich) is in fact a puissant, profoundly diseased demonic force;  but the masses, Christianized into stupefaction, will continue to vote for whatever their oligarchic gods order them to.

If you take $70 at 93mb/d times 365 you get $2.3 trillion. That is just the extraction part of the cycle; retail prices have also fallen by almost as much as the raw crude prices. Considering the impact on “industry” support companies total decline in revenue has been over $5 trillion.

As soon a marmico learns how to read he might do a lot better? But, commenting to the illiterate does make it a challenge!

That must be why the shale industry ran up way over $1 trillion in debt to be able to supply $363 billion per year in product to the market. Obviously, the investors will never live long enough to get their money back.
