Anniversary of the Trump Presidency Part One: Peak Oil and the Deep State

Click to download the audio (MP3 format)

As these words go to publication, millions are expected to take to the streets in centres across the United States, Canada and around the world, all in demonstrations timed with the anniversary of President Trump’s inauguration.

The thrust of the Womens’ March on Washington and its various affiliates is getting more women involved in electoral politics and ratcheting up the voter-turn-out as the mid-term Congressional elections approach.

Healing social divides, most notably around gender, sexual orientation, race, and immigration seem to be the defining issues motivating citizens to action. Interestingly, there seems to be less attention paid to urgent human security concerns related to military interventions, surveillance culture, and economic upheaval.

By and large, elected representatives are prisoners to other forces entrenched in society. In particular, the various corporate lobbies, or ‘special interests’ arguably have much more of an influence on decision-making than the gender of the politician in question. Further, an advanced technological civilization has basic material requirements in terms of energy and resources that need to be met to secure the prosperity of society members at all levels.

Analysts like Peter Dale Scott invoke the concept of the ‘Deep State’ as a way of referring to a permanent governing infrastructure behind the scenes that attends to these fundamental building blocks of society. The approach, at least in the U.S., typically involves forms of violence against the vulnerable including military expansionism, covert activities, and theft.

If elites are able to finance and manipulate election campaigns and election results in their favour, then what are the economic and other considerations in the background prompting the election of Trump and directing his policies in the future? That is the subject of this week’s Global Research News Hour radio program.

We first hear from J. David Hughes, author of two reports on shale oil and gas plays in the U.S. released in December 2016. He is convinced that the Energy Information Administration is overly optimistic about the energy picture of the U.S. and that a near-future short-fall of domestic supply could have damaging long term implications for America’s ‘energy independence.’ This interview was originally conducted a year ago.

Next we speak to commentator and past guest Mark Robinowitz. Robinowitz maintains that Trump was installed a year ago in order to take the fall for an inevitable economic collapse and to introduce unpopular military and other measures which would likely be continued under a future president, Democratic or Republican, male or female.

Robinowitz updates us on his thinking, elaborating on who exactly comprises the different factions within the U.S. ‘Deep State’.

J. David Hughes is an earth scientist who has studied the energy resources of Canada for four decades, including 32 years with the Geological Survey of Canada as a scientist and research manager. He is also a fellow with the Post Carbon Institute.

Mark Robinowitz is a writer, political activist, ecological campaigner and permaculture practitioner and publisher of oilempire.us as well as jfkmoon.org. He is based in Eugene, Oregon.

Interconnectedness and moral hazard of lies:

“Nomi Prins: “The Fed Is Scared To Death Of Crashing The Global Financial System”
    https://tinyurl.com/yawc5gq2

“The media discusses this as a major tightening move. Somehow all of our economies have finally worked because of central bank activity. Growth is real. It’s all positive. The markets are evidence of that because of the levels they are at; and, therefore, these central banks, starting with the Fed, are going to reverse course of these last 10 years. “The reality is if you look at the actual activity of the central banks, beyond the Fed raising rates by a little bit, there hasn’t been and there isn’t being a reversal of course because they are scared to death that too much of a reversal is going to cause a major crash throughout the financial system. Everything is connected. All the banks are connected. Money flows around the world in less than nanoseconds, and all of it has the propensity to collapse if that carpet the central banks have created is dragged from beneath the floor of all this activity.”

“There hasn’t been any real growth in the real economy. That is an indication of the misfire of this entire plan. There has been tremendous growth in stock markets and bond markets. If you look at localities or states or governments whose debt to GDP levels are well over 100%, in Japan it’s over 200%, in the United States it over 100%, and this is the same throughout the world. These are levels that they have never been, and they are all at their historic highs. That’s why debt will ultimately be the destructor of the system. In order for that to happen, the cheapness of money that allow states, municipalities and corporations to continue to borrow at these cheap levels has to go away…At some point, there will be a mistake. There might be a tiny smidge of an interest rate hike at some central bank, probably the Fed, which ripples throughout the system as a mistake, not because real growth has happened, and that’s why interest rates have been raised. That will incur defaults throughout the system. People will incur personal defaults, and that will cause problems in the mortgage market… then it becomes a knock-on credit crisis, and then banks start not to lend… Then we have the makings of a broad crisis.”

LOL that is funny! I am sure there is nothing Trump and his supporter especially the blood thirsty christian right would love more than to kill other “bad people”….But I doubt it…Unless they think they can knock out all of Kim’s defense…

I think MM is not aware that humanity survived for hundreds of thousands of years without smartphones oil, or electricity and thinks we are all gonna die when they stop working or become scarce? I think it is funny how the more ignorant a person is the more it thinks it knows and the less intelligence they have the smarter they think they are. MM’s lecturing and insulting everybody else here at PO being a classic example. MICROMIND all right! LOL!

Wow, thats a lot of comments. I just wanted to add that I thought the news program was very good and informative.

its very refreshing to discussions with people for whom peak oil is just a given reality and that the wheel of society is wobbling on the axle and its just a question of how much wobble.

    Dear Reader,

Here are five peer reviewed scientific studies authored by top experts that prove beyond any reasonable doubt that global civilization will collapse within the next decade.

Simple really….when the World Economy Collapses everything shuts down…the end… We’re talking about grids down all over the world and 7.5B people dropping like f*** flies in short order. The collapse will be absolutely horrible..There is no collapse or horror movie ever produced that has even come close to imagining what the collapse of BAU might look like. I’m talking about every corporation and every social program going bankrupt at once. I’m talking about people eating people. I’m talking about the Worst Catastrophe to ever happen in the history of mankind. Nothing has ever, or will ever come close….

Makes no sense whatsoever if you have been following the process closely from beneath the MSM narrative and rejecting conspiracy peddlers like Robinowitz. I am not saying the Deep State is not alive and well. I am saying they are not what conspiracy addicts say they are. These stories do not add up as most conspiracies generally are extreme versions of the truth that fraudulently make a complicated life easier to understand.

I think it does make sense and if you visit his site..he is no conspiracy nut…I mean do you think the masters of the universe wanted the first woman president to take the fall? And sometimes you need a man to do certain jobs. Putting in dictator rules and such is not something most woman would be comfortable with. The election was hacked that is obvious why the polls before and after showed hillary easily winning. I bet the deep state choose trump because he has no idea about peak oil and such…He is the perfect useful idiot.

  15. MASTERMIND on Mon, 22nd Jan 2018 12:30 pm

We have run out of cheap energy –Oil companies are not replacing reserves – they are shutting down exploration — because the market will not accept 100 oil…. it collapses the economy.

So what is going to happen is that the financial system is at some point going to collapse. It is the operating system of the global economy and our civilization.

They will do everything they possibly can trying to fend off another 2008 moment — they will print and stimulate and bail and loan…. they will use every bullet in the box …then they will throw the empty gun at this — then their will rip off the kitchen sink and throw it too.

I guarantee you they will do ‘whatever it takes’ to hold this moment off for as long as possible. But the moment will arrive — that is guaranteed.

And when it does there will be nothing left to throw — the shops will be looted and emptied — the electricity will go off… the violence and disease and suffering and starvation will follow. Global trade will completely stop — factories will close — spare parts to run the system will not be available — all energy sources will cease to operate — refineries will shut down — oil rigs will go offline — everything – and I mean everything will stop on a dime. Then chaos will reign.

And you will be dead – I will be dead – and the central bankers will be dead

  19. Boat on Mon, 22nd Jan 2018 2:04 pm

    MM,

We have not run out of cheap energy, In fact gas and renewables are pushing out coal which was the cheapest btu going if you skip enviornmantal and health costs. Can you read and google?

    1. Deep State is a term used to describe a conspiratorial idea there is some body of control behind the government, but there is zero evidence to support it.

    2. Trump was voted in by people that were manipulated by the ‘Great Manipulator’.

    3. All great manipulators are also vindictive (which already evident), so just wait till ‘The People’ Trump despises get a load of his wrath if Mueller pins him to a wall.

“And you will be dead – I will be dead – and the central bankers will be dead”

There you have it folks. The MASTERMIND has spoken.

7.6 billion people are just going to roll over and die, because oil production will have reached it’s all time ever record high, and people won’t be able to continue to amass even larger mountains of un-repayable debt.

    You heard here first. 🙂

  22. Boat on Mon, 22nd Jan 2018 2:14 pm

In 2017 around 333 billion was invested in renewables. Renewables on average were 25% cheaper than the renewables in 2015. By 2022 it is projected renewables will drop another 25% in price. These are the dynamics FF has to contend with in the future. Your looking at the wrong trends dude.

One of the easiest ways to get a grasp of the deep state is reading Mearsheimer and Walt and “The Israel Lobby”.

    https://www.amazon.com/Israel-Lobby-U-S-Foreign-Policy/dp/0374531501/ref=sr_1_1

All the major political decisions, like wars against Germany, Korea, Vietnam, Syria, Iraq, Ukraine or the “multicultural society”, Cold War, have NOTHING to do with democratic processes, but are decided upon by the (((true owners of the US))), aka The Deep State, or George Carlin’s “Big Club” or JFKs “Ruthless Conspiracy” or Hitler’s “World Plague” or Chamberlain’s “World Jews” or Mearsheimer’s “Israel Lobby”.

Recently, the HSBC oil report stated that 80% of conventional oil fields were declining at a rate of 5-7% per year. This means that there will be an oil shortage of ~30 million barrels per day by 2030 and ~40 million barrels per day by 2040.
    http://www.scribd.com/document/367688629/HSBC-Peak-Oil-Report-2017

What is mentioned far less often is that annual oil discoveries have lagged annual production since the 1980s.
    https://imgur.com/a/6dEDt

Now, this problem has nothing to do with the recent decline in the oil price, which started in 2014. This has been an on-going problem for the past 30 years.

Now, the IEA is predicting oil shortages by ~2020 due to declining exploration.
    https://www.wsj.com/articles/iea-says-global-oil-discoveries-at-record-low-in-2016-1493244000
    Saudi

Here, the IEA blames this problem on the low oil price. But, this problem started in the 1980s. The problem is geological: we are running out of conventional cheap oil. Shale and tar sands are not the answer, either. Those resources are far too expensive, compared to conventional oil, because the global economy is based on cheap conventional oil. Expensive oil is not a replacement for cheap oil.

Based upon the HSBC report, the End of Oil Age will start around ~2020: there will be a dramatic economic depression due to exhaustion of cheap oil. Which will cause a global economic collapse.

  28. Boat on Mon, 22nd Jan 2018 3:28 pm

    MM,

If you go to the eia site itself their projections show oil growing for decades. Same with OPEC and the IEA. These reports are what the narkets use. Trillions of decisions are based on these reports. You could call that peer reviewed.

  29. Boat on Mon, 22nd Jan 2018 3:33 pm

These organizations and their findings are anyalized and scrutinized in detail. They post themselves updates if numbers need to change because of natural or geopolitical events.

  30. Boat on Mon, 22nd Jan 2018 3:41 pm

Can anybody really get good information and/or projections of Venz, Nigeria, Lybia or Iran? Of course not, no system is perfect. But the vast network of oil shows no immediate short or mid tern shortage.
Just shrills, radicals, idiots and doomers.

  31. Boat on Mon, 22nd Jan 2018 3:43 pm

PS, a self imposed cut of over 2 mbpd by OPEC/Russia is not a supply problem. It is a geopolitical ploy.

  32. Antius on Mon, 22nd Jan 2018 3:53 pm

Maybe the US public were tired of being lorded over by the Clinton crime family. This woman made a fortune accepting bribes when she was Secretary of State. Her husband was primarily responsible for letting China into the WTO, allowing them to asset strip the western world. A number of US citizens in a position to give evidence against her have mysteriously died.

Trump didn’t need to be perfect to win the presidency. He just needed to be better than her. And he clearly is. His policies are a substantial break from what came before and they are fundamentally sensible.
