Flu Vaccine Shortage: Take Your Vitamin C CDC Flu Plan Protects High-Risk Patients
Probably not new to anyone, but I thought I'd bring it up nonetheless. I'm a little pissed off because my younger brother(5) is diabetic, which inherently means he has an immune deficiency. He should be a top priority canidate, yet my mother is scrambling to find him a shot. Just remember, the simplest things can go a long way to prevent infection. Wash your hands after you use the restroom. Get plenty of sleep, eat your vegetables and take your vitamin C. Stay Healthy :-D

Well here we go folks, another sign of the decline, essential public health measures derailed, and the stage is set for a nasty epidemic. Though I suppose if the big dieoff comes along in little bits like a flu pandemic here, and another one there, at least investors won't panic! Meanwhile, yes, wash your hands early & often: before every meal (eating or cooking), after every trip to the bathroom, and first thing when you come in from work at the end of the day.

In fact, when you get in from work, you should go directly to the WC and wash hands *and* face, *before* you give your partner and/or kids the customary "I'm home from work" hugs & kisses. And so should they. Kids get home from school: direct to the WC and wash. No exceptions.
Also when washing hands in a public WC, don't handle the doorknobs directly after you're done. Hang on to a bit of paper towel or toilet paper, and use that to handle the doorknob. Doorknobs, public telephone handsets, and other surfaces handled by multitudes, are notorious points of transmission.
Sanitation saves lives.

They're giving flu shots tomorrow at my local drugstore. I work in a short staffed group home...maybe that will be enough? My boss would like me to get a shot.

there is a regional issue as well, it depends on where you reside, as different distributers carry different lots.

the problem is that vaccines are difficult to make, but no one wants to pay for it. like a god given right. if people would be willing to pay for a shot what a one time subscription of viagra costs, then we would not have an supply issue. people would come knocking on your door trying to sell you one.

this is just economics, and yes if there is only one large supplier left, as it is marginalized in terms of profit, and if something goes wrong in one of the two factories, then you are hosed.

the lesson this really is educational: the old don't put all your eggs in one basket. the flue shot issue is truely market dominated, but there are only two places left capable of making millions of shots. the oil is different. once the middle east goes, then we are not looking at one week in bed with a bed headace and some fever. so the flue shot right now is just a lesson, not another sign of broken down supply, not an impending oil peak

Shees, come on, it's just flu shots!

They are basically useless anyway, they have to be reinvented every year as the viruses mutate on their trip around the globe, and don't offer much protection. I've allways thought that flu shots are something that corporates force their hot-shots to take so they can't have their yearly sick-leave. Flu is part of life, it is futile to fight against it... gives our immune system something to usefull do so they don't turn against us and start inventing allergies and stuff.

Allow me to quote....myself.

Strep throat almost put him in the hospital. What could the onset of the flu do to him? Fortunately, he was able to receive a vaccination today.

Glad to hear that, all the best to you and your brother! :)

It's getting really bad. Over in Lafayette, CA a 79 year-old woman collapsed and died after waiting in line for 5 hours for a flu shot. There were hundreds in line. link They're even having trouble finding flu shots for toddlers, even though the company that makes the pediatric vaccines is a different one from the one that had the adult vaccine pulled.

Does anyone else find it perverse that we can't get a flu shot, but there seems to be an abundance of "erectile enhancing" drugs raining from the sky?

At least I'll die with a smile on my face...

Does anyone know if people like me can stock up vaccines like anthrax and smallpox, polio or any other diseases.

How long can these items be stored?

I don't think I would bother. You could protect yourself from smallpox, and then the next killer flu epidemic could come through and kill you dead. I would concentrate on keeping myself as healthy as possible, so I'd be less susceptible to germs. I've been eating garlic pills all fall, everytime I felt something coming on, and haven't had as much as a cold. Course, I've lost all my friends. . .

you could probly get perscriptions for them if thats what you really wanted.

Anthrax when weaponized defeats any current "Vaccine", and the vaccine on the market has serious side effects you should look up.

Vetrinary antibiotics should ONLY be used for animal, you hear? I don't wan't to hear about people stocking up on the (available to anyone w/ a goat/ horse cow) vet equivalent of Cipro and surviving if law abiding people like me won't. knowaddamean? FYI, Know thy dosages in every animal, medicine and equivalents...IOW dont inject a dosage to heal a cow that was meant for the bodywheight of a cow into a sheep, or any 150lb animal/ primate etc.

Smallpox vac. is in demand, and would be difficult. Just get yourself and everymember vacinated, after being vacinated as children, grown adults, years later, it was found to offer 40% protection from infection.

being a millitary brat, i got it when i was young, while most of my Gen. did not...fear not, get it now if your so concerned.
