I've never been so intensely negative about the future as I am right now, and I've been negative for years, but always with temporary reprieves and upswings during which I persuaded myself that things would probably OK and that I was exaggerating the bad stuff.
Now I really truly believe in doom, no fooling. The doom factors keep proliferating and intensifying and there are no opposing trends!
How about you? Are you feeling it? Or is it just me??
Signed,
A Sweating Bottle of Heineken

'A Sweating Bottle of Heineken' A sweating bottle of Heineken indicates that it's at the perfect temperature to be consumed.
On a more serious note, might I suggest you pick up a copy of Marcus Aurelius'~Meditations, if you do not already own one. It will guide you along the path of true Stoicism, and truely you will not worry about issues such as PO nearly as much, if at all.
Works for me, and much cheaper than pyschoanalysis.
Cheers
Alex

No need to worry; things are going to get much worse.

I try to look on the bright side, most people won't notice peak oil since the global economy is collapsing reducing oil demand. You're probably far more prepared than me and many others here Heineken, so think yourself lucky!

Cool,
At the historical rate of extinction, even if we give humans a big extra for being so "smart" humanity in cold Darwinian terms will be gone long before the earth finally drifts off as some rogue planet eventually to be consume by a black hole or something. Unless there is some other agency watching out for us we will probably be lucky to live as long as the Dodo bird.

This is sort of uncanny, H.
I just got out of bed. I said to my partner, "I can't sleep. I'm genuinely terrified about what's happening."
"There's nothing we can do about it."
"But that doesn't mean you shouldn't be terrified."
"I know. I'm just curious about how it's all going to turn out. I'm wondering if this is it, the big one."
"I think it is," I said.
At school, there's this strange feeling of "let's just pretend everything's OK," as our system hacks back costs with a machete.
One of my students, who was also in my class last semester and learned about peak oil, had nothing to say when I asked if he was aware of the new price record.
"Yep. Saw it this morning."
We have no money here anymore for discretionary spending. Someone bought some milk and yogurt from us yesterday, and I took the cash right out of the jar so I could have something in my wallet.
I sent members of my family the headlines from The Automatic Earth yesterday. Mom wrote back that it "scared" her.
I get anxiety pains in my chest, and I'm going through TUMS like candy.

I was speaking to a nice altruistic woman who is paid full time with public funds to assist illegal Mexicans scam the system. She's done this for years. She told me she has never seen so many Mexicans heading back south across the border to Mexico as she sees now. She seemed shocked by it.
Maybe it's just a localized thing with the construction slow down. I dunno. On the other hand, it could be a canary-in-the-coal-mine sign things are about to get real bad soon.
Real bad. Real soon.

I sit at my job...we're an online retailer with a store front (Surf, Skate and Snow)... and it amazes me how many orders I still continue to see coming in! I lookem' all over and get them down to our pickers and shippers. We have actually had to hire back a few folks we let go after the Xmas rush. While I am well aware things are heading south real quick, our numbers are looking great! I'm the guy at work who lets everyone know that the markets down and oil's hitting 108....and the orders keep flowing! Credit cards are magical I guess? The one thing that keeps it real is that everyone (we have about 25 employees), aside from the owners, is finding it harder than hell to get by and it seems to be getting worse. A few of the younger kids I work with are taking an interest in the market and PO, mostly the smarter punk kids.
Overall, it's a strange deal to see the money coming in and everyone who is shipping the goods out hating it big time!

I talked with a guy who's a manager at the local Check auto parts, he says business is great because people who never worked on their own cars before are now.
That Marcus Aurelius is probably out there for free on the 'net. It may be well worth reading.
Might as well do what we like (within moral reason) as we're all "on the beach" now.

I was always a positive thinker.Never liked negativity.
The way I see it,there are millions who are still unaware. These Greeks are still into the consumer and toy trip. Now that the sun is out, they are all looking to buy new sunglasses so they look cool at the cafe.
That buys me more time.
I just need six more months and a little luck.
The winter is behind us here on the Aegean. The garden is in,I made my final connections with a few of my goat herder friends in case I have to get some animals pronto.
Maybe some chickens.
I live next to a flour mill, a lake.
But to answer your question,I dont think it looks too bright this time either.
And when these Greeks wake up to whats happening.........,its not going to be pretty.

I work for a plastic injection molding company. Our sales are up 28% ytd compared to last year.
Yet, we are breaking even. We had a 'coming to jesus' meeting just last week that let all of us mgmt people know just what that meant.
We were asked to give ideas and suggestions on reducing costs. The things that kept popping into my head were: Inflation and oil prices. No one mentioned those things and I kept my mouth shut. Those facts are a little too macro for people who's jobs depend on seeing the trees rather than the forest.
My wife and I expanded our garden by about 70% over last year, and doubled our potato planting this year, because Heineken, I think you're onto something. We're also installing insulation next weekend, and adding a rainwater collection system to our house. A manual deep well pump just costs too damn much.
As I sit at computer every day at work, and look at 321energy, kitco, and bloomberg.com, and watch as our country gets fucked in slow motion, sometimes I find it makes me very sad, and others I'm grinning about it.
I know deep down that America, and the American way of life are destroying the ecosystem as quickly as possible, for maximum profit, and I know that it needs to stop if there is any hope for my kids/grandkids (should I be so lucky). Yet sometimes I lament the fact that this charade we call a lifestyle is going to end, and likely end badly for many people; many people I know and care about as well, who have refused to listen when I brought up the issues confronting us.
That's what I call a conundrum.
Good post Heineken.

Always look on the Bright Side of Life.
Hey, lots to look forward to this year - melting icecaps, possible Cheney power grab or false flag op, fuel levels dancing near the MOL. Haven't been so keen in years myself.
Is that pronounced "Doom - Oh - Meter" or "Doom - Om - Eter"?

It's available in a cheap Penguin books paperback, IIRC. Might as well throw in Botheius while you're at it. You well may not have the consolation of a 1.8 Mhz Intel soon.
Interesting about the Mexicans fleeing the country. I'd like to think we native Oregonians finally cold shouldered them away...
wonder if that's happening around the country?
28% sales increase doesn't hack it anymore? How else do you explain that except due to inflation and oil prices? LBJ was right: "If you have a mother-in-law with only one eye and she has it in the center of her forehead, you don't keep her in the living room."
