For a minute there I thought I had to get off my couch, when all the while the fact is we don't have to do anything much but keep things afloat for just a few decades more! In fact, we'd best shut up about PO, because if our offspring finds out we knew about it all along, they'll turn and wring our necks come 2036!

Bush just decided to sell F-16's to Pakistan, India's nuclear neighbor. Bush knows China can't be touched just due to their size and their new European weapons. But, maybe this sale of F-16's to Pakistan is meant to challenge India's growing oil consumption.

China is safe, so go after the next big consumer?

generikan, Good point. They will use Afghanistan but Pakistan has one thing Afghanistan does not. Some thing very important to transportation. Yes you guessed it, Sea Ports. It is much easier to move tanks and artillery pieces by water then it is by air.

If you look at a topographical map fo Iran you will see that 90 % of Iran's borders with its neighbours is mountains. A US invasion of Iran would mean crossing mountains to get to heart of the country.

Even using the sea won't be much help as Iran's coast with the Persian Gulf, the Gulf of Oman, the Sraight of Hormuz, the Indian ocean and the Caspian sea are all mountains. Only a small area near the northwest border of Afghanistan and southwest border of Turkmenistan appears to have a small opening, but not much. The Iranians can easily defend their borders from invaders and with the aid of advanced weapons hidden in the mountains that can go undetected, Iran can rain down destruction on an invading force.

I've been to Venezuela a few times and I've seen what a mountaineous coatline looks like. Venezuela's coast is literally mountains protruding out of the sea. An invasion of Venezuela would not be easy, and neither would one of Iran.

Bush and his generals might think they have a plan, but that doesn't mean it will work. Bush and the generals may feel 100 000 Amercan lives lost in an invasion would be worth the effort since none of their lives or the lives of their family members will be among the ones lost. It is somewhat sad that Americans would allow themselves to be sacrificed for the few to be privledged, but again it is the survival of the smartest and not the dumbest. Ignorance is not always bliss.

Gwadar seaport seems like an ideal place to set up camp. And there are many major roads from Iraq to Iran. The nok kundi-zahedan highway is a major road into Iran. Besides if their is an invasion very unlikely IMHO then there will be a large scale bombing campaign to soften up the target.
