You saved democracy in Europe!
The very next time i will have time and money i will spent my holidays in Ireland.
You are really fantastic!
This goddam EU treaty with phrases to prepare industry for war, to kill people at demonstrations or to further enhance the nuclear industry is such a bullshit!
German people are never asked if something important for their lives has to be decided: Not the reintroduction of the army, not about the Euro nor the new EU-treaty ( a slightly enhanced new EU-"constitution).
This is not democracy (the reign of the people) but oligarchy (the reign of some people, like ministers or representatives).

You're welcome Jupidu.
I voted no because I felt the Irish people were being railroaded into voting yes.
In fact, the turning point for most people I know was when some French politician stated that the first victims of a no vote would be Ireland itself.
If he had any clue of Irish history he would know 2 things.
1.) Never TELL Irish people what to do and
2.) Don't ever ever threaten them - French Prick. _________________ www.askaboutenergy.com |

The voting result is interesting because Ireland has historically been one of the most pro-EU states in the entire organization.
They have had the greatest increase in living standards since joining the EU and thanks in large part to membership in the EU, live in one of the best places on planet Earth.
And yet when given the opportunity to give the EU more power...they said HELL NO.
Clearly this treaty was horribly flawed if the EU's biggest fans rejected it.
I'm glad that the Irish people are allowed to voice their opinion on issues like the Lisbon Treaty. _________________ "www.peakoil.com is the Myspace of the Apocalypse." |

| Yes, thank you. Now the politicians might actually try to listen to what people want before they think of how to realize more of their own dreams. As long as European democracy is not functioning it should not be given any more powers. |

Hmm. Either that's genetic, or Texans share it. My ancestry is mostly Irish and I'd say that definitely applies to me.

My compliments and my thanks to the Irish for stopping this horrible treaty.
Just like the Germans, Italians were not asked if we wanted to ratify the treaty. "Our" politicians took the decision (i mean, they were well payed to take that decision) for all of us.
This just confirms (not that there is any more proof of it) that the gap between politicians an people if getting wider and wider. |

I was thinking the same thing. Wonder how much of that got passed down on the yankee side of the pond?
Cause I sure resemble that remark. |

| Its good to have a referendum. Canada has usually shied away for them, as our politicians want to keep everything cozy. We never even had a referendum on our Constitution. Though we did on the NAFTA. |

Maybe I'm wrong, but unlike some EU posters here, I don't think that most Europeans want the EU to be an empire. They want a union that benefits the member countries in terms of trade, travel, etc, not one that takes away sovereignty. _________________ "That's the problem with mercy, kid...
