I think this is the beginnings of an economy based on perpetual growth and fossil fuel energy running headlong into geological energy constraints. Basically I see an undulatory downward path for the rest of my life. From here out, I think any rallies in our economic condition are going to be met with spiking commodity prices that knock us right back down.

Check out the Chinese rammed earth buildings called "Tulou". These are fortified clan houses, some of them centuries old, that are durable and made from local materials, without fossil fuel inputs.

They're also the absolute best-ever model for collectivist living: a circle, with all families looking at each other, inwards, to stimulate social interaction, while the outside world is kept firmly behind the outer wall.

Would you want to live in one?

I like the overall style, but I'd prefer each building to be a lot smaller. Each building with room for one big extended family and divided up so people can have privacy as well. Although I am aware with the population of China that might not be a viable option, but for Australia it would be fine.

Pre-fab intentional community? These are interesting. I'm with katkinkate, I'd want them pretty small. You'd need an escape plan, though. Maybe a tunnel leading out.

I like it. It looks like what I had envisioned on a much smaller scale for my people.
