Year on year consumption is down 15% for petrol, 10% overall (including diesel).

I guess we'll soon be hitting the limits of elasticity.

"Consumption was 10.3 percent lower in June 2008 compared with the same month a year ago," UFIP's head Jean-Louis Schilansky told Reuters.

Prices at petrol stations had also started to fall in the last 10 days, reflecting a fall in oil prices in the last two weeks.

Oil prices have fallen from a peak of just under $148.00 a barrel in mid-July to around $125 on Thursday. (Reporting by Muriel Boselli)
