For a minute there I thought I had to get off my couch, when all the while the fact is we don't have to do anything much but keep things afloat for just a few decades more! In fact, we'd best shut up about PO, because if our offspring finds out we knew about it all along, they'll turn and wring our necks come 2036!

Big Brother is watching here too...

...as long as the power is on.

Turn the power off and things change.

Check out the guy walking to church(parking lot) with a shotgun in one hand and a bible in the other! A few weeks ago he was probably walking in the malls and thinking about getting out more, duck hunting... And the lady cooking between two cinder blocks.
It's not unreasonable to think that things can change.

I think that we will see Balkanisation where different ethnic groups will dominate different areas.

Some areas will be "no go" death traps whilst others will be relatively civilised.

The current huge rate of illegal immigration will lead to major problems.

In the event of trouble I hope that the politicians get strung up first for what they have done to a once decent country.

Hi steam-cannon, I was actually talking about the TV show, Smile, you see, when the sheeple go to graze, they watch Big Brother, Dancing on Ice, Celebrity Fame Academy and the like.
I may be wrong but i think that such people (mostly middle class strata) will not rise in the event of a crisis. My bet is that they will became the "resources" for the new predators of society, neds, chavs and the like.

Well, you've no one to blame but yourselves, yer blimmin pom. You sent us to the colonies and a gallavantin generally and the colonies are coming home to roost.

I've no sympathy for you buggers. And to add insult to injury, we have to put up with you lazy whingers moving in on us in New Zealand, en masse it seems these days.

Give me a hard working Asian immigrant any day.

AmericanDream, just wondering, do you ever contribute anything of substance or do you solely concentrate on trying to be an ass?

The power is nearly off in the UK as is. It costs 2-3 pounds a day just to heat a small worker's cottage from the turn of the century. And that with the heat only on for 2-4 hours a day. It's bloody damp cold in the UK.

Americans would far sooner fall into anarchy when faced by the prospect of tiny hot water heaters and combi-boilers than those in the UK who already have faced that obstacle. The UK is far more efficient than America and advancing rather than lost in deliberate green denial.

The problem in the UK is that the youth there need to find themselves and launch out into the developing Eastern Half of Europe. They are facing too much competition in their homeland and, not finding their enterprise, are stagnating.

Hoodie fear is high in the UK. ASBOs run rampant. They have jobs, unemployment is low. The problem is a sense of having a future that seems promising and the failure of the grownups around the youth culture to initiate their youth into adulthood.

The fact that the English colonised a fair chunk of the world is not the question here. Do you believe that the balkanisation of the UK (and other areas of Europe) is or isn't a risk post-peak?

This is not a debate about post-colonial guilt, but the potential realities of "tribal" lines being based on ethnicity, belief or other gubbins once people are forced to defend themselves for their basic necessities.

Given that (for example) Islam already has a strong political element as well as its spiritual and social elements, I believe Muslims will be amongst the most organised post peak. What is wrong with discussing this kind of thing?

I wasn't aware that Romania, Poland, Bulgaria, Russia, VietNam, Serbia etc were ever British colonies?

As for Brits emigrating to NZ, I believe they have to have decent education & a lot of energy & drive. I doubt that many are lazy.
I suppose that you find them a threat, which could explain your hostility.

No mate...its the endless whingeing......no sooner do they get off the boat, and the buggers are whingeing about this and that....like you!

As for working......lol.....thats another gripe you fellas are good at....the fact that we work so hard while you're strictly 9-5 boys. C'mon mate, you've never had it so good so quit blaming everyone else, be grateful for your good fortune and let the other buggers have a fair go.

Emigrants (of any flavour) tend to be more dynamic than the locals.

You clearly have a problem with this, even if they have been checked by your government. You especially seem to dislike white Europeans.

So ... I dislike any immigrants who enter the UK illegally to set up cannabis factories ... whilst you dislike legal, well qualified immigrants to NZ, especially if white.

Perhaps you would be happier with our druggies - we could then keep our skilled people.

As for the illegal dope growers, feel free to: let the other buggers have a fair go ... in NZ!
