Well, tried to send this off to my user page on SEEDS (http://www.IslandSeeds.org/wiki/User:Jan_Steinman), but you don't have an up-to-date InterWiki map installed.
Yes, I sent PM to Aaron, explaining what I need to do what I'd like to do with the wiki, and got no response.
<snip>
John, do you want me to copy you on what I sent Aaron?
Yes; I can keep a circular flow of information going through several channels at the same time if I know what's getting back-watered.
If anything is worth a high hail-Mary, this would be it. _________________ --------------------------------

Jan,
He's all yours.
I'll get to work on Admin1 and Admin2. _________________ --------------------------------

First, create an account using the link at the top right of the page. I haven't checked the config on the PeakOil wiki yet, but many wikis require an account for editing. It would be nice if the wiki could use the same login info as Peak Oil proper, but that requires work on the PHP source, which I don't have yet.
You generally start out by editing an existing page, such as the "Main Page" that welcomes you when you first go to http://www.PeakOil.com/wiki . If you simply want to make a new page, figure out some meaningful way to refer to it. Naming is crucial to keeping content available and relevant, but names can be changed afterward, if needed. Once you've got that figured out, make a link to it on the page you're editing by putting [[double square brackets]] around it. This is all it takes to make a link!
Once you've done that, save your changes, then click on the link to get to the page you're creating, and add content to that page.
Unlike HTML websites, where "dead links" are frowned upon, wikizens often put empty links on their pages. These are to be interpreted as an invitation to write the attached page. So if you're writing an essay on the depletion of the Gawhar oil field, you might write something like this:
Some wiki author wrote:
The Gawhar field is quickly reaching [[depletion]], which mean it is [[peaking]].
The words "depletion" and "peaking" will appear as a red link, inviting others to flesh them out by clicking on them and further defining them.
There are tons of formatting options. You can include images, and in such a way that they have text flowing around them and are thumbnails that link to larger images, for example. See http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Editing for lots of information about editing and formatting -- you may want to print this out and have it nearby when editing pages.
Above all, the Wiki Way is collaborative and egoless. Some people generate ideas, others flesh them out, still others delight in formatting and graphic design. It tends to have better content and fewer flames than bulletin boards and forums. People who vandalize or inflame get banned.
So jump right in! I try to check changes every few days, but will do it more often as more happens there. _________________ :::: Jan Steinman, Communication Steward, EcoReality, a forming sustainable community. Be the change! ::::
And please go there and add tons of content. I've set up a possible framework for the thing so far.
Make sure to check the "Discussion" tab along the top of each page. This will allow us to chat about how we want a page to develop.
I have suggested a more conservative tone for the theory and allow more of a speculative nature on the consequences side. I’ve included a spot for adding planning links.
Lets stop talking here about it and go to the wiki and start adding stuff. *grin*
In MacOS X Tiger (18 days and counting!) it's built into the web browser, Safari, or available as a desktop widget. _________________ :::: Jan Steinman, Communication Steward, EcoReality, a forming sustainable community. Be the change! ::::

Any progress toward getting some innocuous enhancements installed?
I don't really want to admin it if my favorite tools aren't there! _________________ :::: Jan Steinman, Communication Steward, EcoReality, a forming sustainable community. Be the change! ::::

Ever watch the old show "Bewitched"?
I need her nose.
Then things will get done. _________________ --------------------------------

Actually, I responded to a bulk email about PeakOil's new server, and got a quick response from Dan Colonnese, and we're gonna make it happen!
It was just bad timing, as I'm currently in the throes of taxes. (Schedule C -- at least 10x more work than "wage slave" tax returns.)
Next week, we'll try to get some things going on the wiki, hopefully leading to a link on the sidebar, so it will get exposure. _________________ :::: Jan Steinman, Communication Steward, EcoReality, a forming sustainable community. Be the change! ::::

Thanks to Bytesmiths, EntropyFails and others who have contributed to the WIKI. It's starting to look pretty good. _________________ --------------------------------
