"Looks just like mine!!
World's most affordable and durable all around general purpose rifle.
Excellent choice!!"
Is it really one of the best?
How do you know if it's a first generation model?
Do you have any shooting tips Rman? :D
Thanks

I am ex marine - this rifle is nearly identical to what colt sells to our armed focres.
The 223 is one of the most common rounds around.
The parts are easy to come by and the weapon is basically indestructible.
Oh - and did i mention accurate.
Hard sites will drive tacks at 300 yards...this beast is made for accuracy, "One shot one kill".
My advice - that you asked for - don't mess with it. Leave the trigger alone...don't hang ginchy assualt stuff off of it (e.g. light...laser)...just use it as is and she won't fail you.
The kick is hardly noticeable...the barrel solid and good for 10's of thousands of rounds.
A little CLP (lubricant) and this piece will be buried with you.
Congrats! _________________ "There must be a bogeyman; there always is, and it cannot be something as esoteric as "resource depletion." You can't go to war with that." Emersonbiggins

If you haven't got a forward assist on the upper receiver, you might wish to consider getting one.
Congratulations on your new weapon. _________________ Dieoff. Fun to watch. Better with hot buttered popcorn! |

I picked up some CLP today when I transferred the ownership to me. It is difficult for me to focus with my eyes going bad so quickly, so I was contemplating a new aimpoint sight, and a flash supressor. The barrel is a smaller one than the one that came with the rifle, does this matter? It's a 16"
Thanks for the feedback and suggestions. _________________ "Those who long for exaltation look upwards, but I look downward for I am the exalted."

I think that's a great rifle, but calling it the most durable is quite an oversight in my opinion. A good FAL or AKM (Bulgarian or Russian) is worlds better in the durability department. Don't make me dig up "ol' dirty". |

Hmmm- thought they came with the FS...yes - get one.
Also you can pick up a cheap ($25) red dot at wal mart. Thing is when there are no more batteries - hard sights only. Unless you are sniping . hard sights should work fine - try shooting with both eyes opened. _________________ "There must be a bogeyman; there always is, and it cannot be something as esoteric as "resource depletion." I guess there was one molded into the oringal barrel, but the kid upgraded to a new 16" that doesn't have one. I'll try the shooting with both eyes open. Does the red dot help only at close range? _________________ "Those who long for exaltation look upwards, but I look downward for I am the exalted."

You will need to remove the handle (easy) and fit the red dot on the slide. Yes - long and short range whatever is behind the red dot gets drilled. _________________ "There must be a bogeyman; there always is, and it cannot be something as esoteric as "resource depletion." This particular model has the handle molded into the upper. I would have to get a handle mounted dot like this one:

Thats a pretty awesome rifle for your first rifle. My first rifle was a lever-action Marlin 30/30. I still have it but haven't shot it in years.
I bet you don't put yours down for years. Enjoy.

I grew up shooting shotguns and my fathers 7mm. I decided I never needed one for myself, until now. _________________ "Those who long for exaltation look upwards, but I look downward for I am the exalted."

It has one. I don't plan on shooting people.

I did enjoy shooting when I was young, but I've not shot anything other than my 870 in years. I will enjoy it! _________________ "Those who long for exaltation look upwards, but I look downward for I am the exalted."

You wouldn't use a tree stand when you needed the deer for meat? _________________ "Those who long for exaltation look upwards, but I look downward for I am the exalted."
