A little bit about me. I've been into survival prepping for around a year. This was as a result of an ice storm that brought down the grid for over 500,000 people.
To be honest, I've heard about peak oil in the past but never gave it much thought. I was always of the opinion, as I'm sure you have heard stated before, that there was plenty of oil out there. When the price of oil started spiking recently, I started doing some research on world supplies and reserves. The term peak oil kept coming up and the more I looked at it, the more I became convinced that there was some solid science behind this.
Although it annoys me greatly that I can not come up with a solution to fix the problem of peak oil or to refute the theory, I believe we can each do something to make ourselves more reliant and self-sufficient. The end of the oil age doesn't mean the end of life and I intend to cushion the blow in my life as much as possible. |

We're pickin' 'em up quickly, eh?
What if oil goes to One Fitty?

Hi Cog, welcome.
We had a bad ice storm last Jan too - same event maybe. It really helps to be prepped even though we were only down for 4 days I think, we were able to help some neighbors down the road who were down for over 2 weeks. _________________ Make a plan and work it: |

Thanks for the welcomes. There is a lot of good information here already and I hope I can in some small way offer some more in my trials and tribulations in prepping and gardening.
I do have some pics to post of my experiments in gardening. I noted that there is a size limit as not to result in page blowout. Does the forum software automatically resize them or should I do that myself? The other option would be to post them as links. |

Welcome Cog from a former brick in the wall.
"The end of the oil age doesn't mean the end of life and I intend to cushion the blow in my life as much as possible."
This is a sound approach and like the way you said it. I may steal this phrase from you.
RE: Ice storms. When I lived in Redmond, WA we lived on a mountain and had regular occurrences of severe ice/snow storms that would knock out power for 3 or 4 days. These events (clear back in the 80's & 90's) turned my mind to the preparedness/doomer vein. Now the prospect and emerging reality of peak oil has me firmly and full time in the doomer camp. _________________ "Modern Agriculture is the use of land to convert petroleum into food."

How many of us are here because we went out looking for solid proof to shut up those peak oil idiots, and utterly failed?
