Yeah, I've heard that one too, but no one every backs it up except with ipse dixits. Meanwhile...

Define "looting". Not letting the top 3% of the country have 90% of the income and wealth, you mean? Cry me a(n Orinoco) river.

Another thing here is related to the infamous forced partnership, in the oil biz, sold abroad as "nationalisation".
Heaven forfend that the money of a resource belonging to the people of Venezuela should accrue to the people of Venezuela. I suppose you'd be happier if it went to Exxon and Shell and seven or eight people living in mountaintop villas far from the squalor of Caracas? Ah, yes, the real people of Venezuela...

About those considerations you have over our political reality I would love to help you out into the subject but I don´t think you would be genuinly interested by the tone of some of your expressions.
No, really, I'd love to know why you think it is that most of the peoples of South America have been electing governments that are of a Bolivarian bent, rather than following the lead of Colombia in being Uncle Sam's Caribbean pool boy and day gardener. Do tell. _________________ I can has cheezburger?

Ohh great ...... well, regarding the electoral tendency of "bolivarians" regimens I can only say that those ancients history books are full of such timely tendencies. Only then it was called as "independence" from Spain ..... or England ...... or Portugal ...... or, well, take your pick!
Today its called NWO.
As far as the LOCAL tendency of such movement, believe me, it is in MORAL bankrupsy. Examples ..... you have the recent elections for the university (Central University of Venezuela which is state controlled) body in which the official "leadership" only got under ten percent of the votes.
You have, also, the traumatic creation of hugo´s PSUV (Single Socialist Party) which have been in the oven for almost two years and everyday is getting smaller and less functional.
Another such indicative of the heartbeat of that local communist totalitarian project are the big movements of mass transportation units to collect and bring portable audiences for hugo to speak to, everytime he is in the need to be photographed as if he was "popular", for you to see it and buy the whole package, etc.
Emmm ..... forgive me for the links because those are only spanish.
Regarding your link and those cyphers on it, trust me, and I don´t mean to be rude, the source from such wonderful numbers says what its worth. INE (National Statistics Inst.).
Another thing they, in the article, so conveniently ..... "forgot", when studying the poverty problem, was the fact of an barrel of oil under ten bucks when huguito stepped in and I gather you ought to know the current price of that good and for how long it has remained upthere, don´t you?.

That what it was then????
Ohh gee no wonder ........ now its only the top 0.3 percent of us who enjoy the big cake. Only they are called Big Shot Functionaries. Examples ...... well, the man of the briefcase seized in Argentina , right?

Nope ..... I´d be happier if those resources were WISELY invested IN Venezuela, or were USED to attract foreign investments, to bring JOBS for the Venezuelans, to benefit from.
Once those problems, our country does have, were fully met, then you could start helping other countries out on their problems ......
By the way, I do share your vision over the colombian government and its current role. However, the issue of the problem I am drawing down here relates to the inconvenience of our current government which is leading this country but to disaster instead.
Also about this subject and the comparison we tend to make out of them, I would like you to read the following article. And perhaps we could discuss over it and some of the concepts there applyied.
Trust me Nickel ...... guys, after reading it out, not few things slapped me hard in the face with evidences of things that I could feel there were around yet couldn´t put my finger on.
