The post-peak oil, post-housing bust economy is already driving most crazy, and we won't even get to the food riot stage for maybe two more years.

President Hugo Chavez on Wednesday warned Colombia not to allow a U.S. military base on its border with Venezuela, saying he would consider such an act an "aggression."

Chavez said he would not permit Colombia's U.S.-backed government to establish an American military base in La Guajira, a region spanning northeastern Colombia and northwestern Venezuela.

The Venezuelan leader said if Colombia allows the base, his government will revive a decades-old territorial conflict and stake a claim to the entire region.

"We will not allow the Colombian government to give La Guajira to the empire," Chavez said, referring to the U.S. during a speech to a packed auditorium of uniformed soldiers. "Colombia is launching a threat of war at us."

Chavez is a big mouth.

Check this nonsense:

Quote:
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez lashed out at Germany's chancellor on Sunday, suggesting that her party shares the political ideals of Adolf Hitler.

The Venezuelan leader criticized Chancellor Angela Merkel for belonging to the conservative Christian Democratic Union, calling the movement "the same right wing that supported Hitler and fascism."

Chavez is playing intq the hands of the Empire.

I don't think it matters either way, really, but he's making it easy.

America wants another base to oversee the dope trade. Just like Bondsteel in Kosovo, the sex-slave and heroin hub of Europe. Chavez is threatening the flow of "spice".

If there is a problem in spice flows, I strongly suggest we send in Vladimir Harkonnen to fix the problem. He has a long and glorious history of the best productivity out of the spice producers.

Chavez is a blow-hard and he's really asking to get it nice and hard.
He is extremely imprudent and impolitic and because of this he is doomed.

Doomed by what, exactly? Saying things slighting to US pride? Calling a spade a spade as he sees it, not a heart or a diamond to please the folks in the Beltway? Pursuing the interests of his own country, rather than yours; looking after his own people, rather than yours; objecting to tacit threats to Venezuela's territorial and political integrity? Putting the emphasis on improving the lot of the average person instead of that of the average billionaire?

I don't think the world's going to put up with too much more Uncle Sam smash-and-grab escapades. Dear as the Chinese love getting rich up-ending the US and drinking the wealth that flows down thanks to the gravity of its own greed, I think even they will balk at paying your bills (currently to the tune of two billion dollars a day) to facilitate that kind of thing much longer. They're bound to regard letting the US kill off all the rest of their customers as bad for business in the long run.

Nickel,

Yep, all that stuff. I think he's a marked man. Just like Saddam was and is no more. The Empire will have to make an example of Chavez to keep the rest of South America in line. Just the harsh reality of our world.

Besides, he's a total jerk and is pissing off more and more countries.

Yeah, and the Ayatollah, too. And Kim Il-Jong. Oh, and let's not forget how quickly the US got ol' Fidel out of the way. Yup, they go regular as clockwork.

Personally, I'd like to see George Bush and Hugo Chavez locked up together as cell mates. Fitting punishment for both of them. And, with a live feed of the rants and surreal posturing carried on You Tube.

And, a weekly TV show of the highlights. Let's call it "Who's the biggest dufus?" Every week, a phone in number could be used to select the dufus of the week.

Dude was selling drugs on behalf of Ronald Ray Gun to fund Iran-Contra. He was on the payroll of the CIA from the 60s onward. What, we're supposed to be impressed that the US disestablished a dictator they propped up to run a colony that freed itself from Spain, only to take on another imperial overlord when they caught him spying for Cuba? Yeah, that's right, it had nothing to do with drugs. He could have dumped an 18 wheeler full of coke at Hollywood and Vine and that would have been just peachy. That's the biz he was in. It's when he got sloppy about his paymasters that they took him down for "drug trafficking". That's like taking down American Airlines for interstate flight. Forgive me if I don't tremble with awe at the US rotating a slot it controlled, or applaud the duplicity of "the land of the free" working hard to rot the soul of a fellow American republic.

But getting back to the guys they don't control...
